PRIEST Blessed is our God always, now and for ever: world without end. Amen. In peace let us pray unto the Lord. Kyrie eleison or Lord have mercy. And after each petition For the peace from on high, and for the salvation of our souls, let us pray unto the Lord. For the remission of sins of the servant of God […..] and the forgiveness of his (her) voluntary and involuntary transgressions, let us pray unto the Lord. That the Lord God may grant unto him (her) remission of sins and time for repentance, let us pray unto the Lord. That he (she) and we may be delivered and us from all tribulation, wrath danger and necessity, let us pray unto the Lord. Succour, save, have mercy and preserve us, O God, by Thy grace. Being mindful of our Most Holy and undefiled, Most Blessed and glorious Lady, Mother of God and Ever-Virgin Mary; and of all the saints; let us commend ourselves and one another, and our whole life to Christ our God. To Thee, O Lord. For unto Thee belong all glory, honour and worship, unto the Father, and unto the Son, and unto the Holy Spirit; now and for ever: world without end. Then the Priest says the following prayer Let us pray unto the Lord. Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, Shepherd and Lamb, who takest away the sin of the world, who didst erase the debt of the two debtors, and unto the woman which was a sinner didst grant remission of her sins, Do Thou also, O Master, loose, remit and forgive the sins, the transgressions, the offences, the voluntary and involuntary, the witting and unwitting, those in error and disobedience, committed by these [this] Thy servants [servant]. And whatsoever, they (he, she) have (hath) committed, being men (man) clothed in flesh and living in the world, being deluded by the devil, whether in word or deed, witting or unwitting, whether through the infringement of a Priest’s advice, or through his condemnation, or having fallen under their (his, her) own anathema, or bound by an oath: Do Thou who art Good and long-suffering be well pleased that these (this) Thy servants (servant) be loosed by Thy word, forgiving them (him, her) their (his, her) own anathema and oath, according to Thy great mercy. Yea, O Lord and Master, Lover of mankind, give ear to our supplication on behalf of these (this) Thy servants (servant) and overlook all their (his, her) transgressions, for Thou art most merciful: and deliver them (him, her) from eternal damnation. For Thou didst say, O Master, “Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven”. For Thou alone art without sin and unto Thee we ascribe glory, together with Thine eternal Father and Thine all-holy, good and life-giving Spirit, now and for ever: world without end. Amen. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. PSALM 50, [51] Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar. And the following Troparia Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us, for destitute of all defence, we sinners, O Master, offer unto Thee this prayer. Have mercy upon us. Be not altogether wroth with us, neither remember our iniquities, but inasmuch as Thou art merciful, look down upon us even now, and deliver us from our enemies. For Thou art our God and we are Thy people. We all are the work of Thy hands, and we call upon Thy name. Now and for ever: world without end. Amen. Open the gate of compassion unto us, O blessed Mother of God, so that hoping in thee we shall not fail, but through thee may we be delivered from all adversity; for thou art the salvation of all Christian peoples. Kyrie eleison [40] And the penitent shall say to himself Forgive me, O Lord, for I have sinned. And O God, be gracious unto me a sinner. PRIEST Let us pray unto the Lord. O God our Saviour, who through Thy prophet Nathan didst grant remission of sins to David when he repented of his own transgressions, and didst accept the penitential prayer of Manasseh: Do thou also accept, in Thy constant love for mankind, this Thy servant […..] who doth repent of all the transgressions he/she hath committed and overlook everything that he/she hath done, O Thou that dost forgive all unrighteousness and supersedes all iniquity. For Thou didst say, “ I have no pleasure in the death of a sinner, but that he turn from his way and live”, and that sins shall be forgiven unto seventy times seven. For as Thy greatness is incomparable, likewise Thy mercy is immeasurable: if Thou, Lord, shouldest mark iniquities, who shall stand? For Thou art the God of them that repent and unto Thee we ascribe glory, unto the Father, and unto the Son, and unto the Holy Spirit, now and for ever: world without end. Amen. And the Penitant, kneeling and holding up his hands shall say: O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, I confess to Thee all the hidden and manifest sins of my heart and mind, which I have committed to this day. Therefore I beseech Thee, the righteous and compassionate Judge, grant me forgiveness and grace to sin no more. Then the Spiritual Father shall say calmly to the penitent: Brother, inasmuch as thou hast come unto God and unto me, be not ashamed; for thou dost not speak unto me, but unto God, before whom thou dost stand. And the penitent will now confess his/her sins and when he/she has left nothing unsaid, the Spiritual Father shall say the following prayer: My spiritual child, who hast confessed to my humble self, I who am a lowly sinner, have no power on earth to forgive sins, but God alone, however, because of that divine voice, which after the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, didst come to the Apostles and didst say: “Whosesoever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whosesoever sins ye retain, they are retained”, we also are emboldened to say: Whatsoever thou hast said to my humble self, and whatsoever thou hast not managed to say, whether through ignorance or forgetfulness, whatever it may be, may God forgive thee in this world and in the world to come. And this prayer also: May the same God, who through Nathan the prophet didst forgive David his sins when he confessed, and Peter when he wept bitterly for his denial, and the sinful woman when she wept at His feet, and the Publican and the Prodigal Son, also forgive thee all things through me a sinner, both in this world and in the world to come, and make thee to stand uncondemned before His dread Judgement Seat. Concerning the transgressions that thou hast spoken off, have no further care and depart in peace. The Dismissal Glory be to Thee, O Christ our God and our hope, glory be to Thee. May Christ our true God, by the prayers of His most holy Mother; of the holy and all-glorious Apostles and of all the saints, have mercy upon us, and save our souls: For He is good and loving-kind. By the prayers of our holy fathers, Lord Jesus Christ our God, have mercy upon us and save us. Amen
