Hi, Father Christopher, what is the Church's position on curses?
Answer to Question 7
Depends who its from. There is a prayer in the service of Holy Unction (Άγιον Ευχέλαιον) which says to forgive the person of his sins "whether they were committed voluntary or involuntary, witting or unwitting, in violation and disobedience, at night and during the day, whether committed through curse of a priest or by a curse from father or mother." For the church to mention a curse from a priest or father or mother means that she takes these curses seriously and that she believes not that they can cause us harm, but that they can cause us to commit sin. In all other cases curses from other people cannot harm us if we have our faith in Christ.

Reply In the Old Testament God is portrayed as cursing certain people or events so we can say that some are from God, but in general curses are evil and all evil is from the devil.
