ΝΕΕΜΙΑΣ 11 ΚΑΙ ἐκάθισαν οἱ ἄρχοντες τοῦ λαοῦ ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλήμ, καὶ οἱ κατάλοιποι τοῦ λαοῦ ἐβάλοσαν κλήρους ἐνέγκαι ἕνα ἀπὸ τῶν δέκα καθίσαι ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ πόλει τῇ ἁγίᾳ καὶ ἐννέα μέρη ἐν ταῖς πόλεσι. 2 καὶ εὐλόγησεν ὁ λαὸς τοὺς πάντας ἄνδρας τοὺς ἑκουσιαζομένους καθίσαι ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλήμ· 3 καὶ οὗτοι οἱ ἄρχοντες τῆς χώρας, οἳ ἐκάθισαν ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ καὶ ἐν πόλεσιν ᾿Ιούδα· ἐκάθισαν ἀνὴρ ἐν κατασχέσει αὐτοῦ, ἐν πόλεσιν αὐτῶν ᾿Ισραήλ, οἱ ἱερεῖς καὶ οἱ Λευῖται καὶ οἱ ναθιναῖοι καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ δούλων Σαλωμών· 4 καὶ ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ ἐκάθισαν ἀπὸ υἱῶν ᾿Ιούδα καὶ ἀπὸ υἱῶν Βενιαμίν. ἀπὸ υἱῶν ᾿Ιούδα· ᾿Αθαΐα υἱὸς ᾿Αζία, υἱὸς Ζαχαρία, υἱὸς Σαμαρία, υἱὸς Σαφατία, υἱὸς Μαλελεὴλ καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν υἱῶν Φαρές, 5 καὶ Μαασία υἱὸς Βαρούχ, υἱὸς Χαλαζά, υἱὸς ᾿Οζία, υἱὸς ᾿Αδαΐα, υἱὸς ᾿Ιωαρίβ, υἱὸς Ζαχαρίου, υἱὸς τοῦ Σηλωνί· 6 πάντες υἱοὶ Φαρὲς οἱ καθήμενοι ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ τετρακόσιοι ἑξηκονταοκτὼ ἄνδρες δυνάμεως. 7 καὶ οὗτοι υἱοὶ Βενιαμίν· Σηλὼ υἱὸς Μεσουλάμ, υἱὸς ᾿Ιωάδ, υἱὸς Φαδαΐα, υἱὸς Κωλεΐα, υἱὸς Μαασίου, υἱὸς ᾿Εθιήλ, υἱὸς ᾿Ιεσία, 8 καὶ ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ Γηβέ, Σηλί, ἐννακόσιοι εἰκοσιοκτώ. 9 καὶ ᾿Ιωὴλ υἱὸς Ζεχρὶ ἐπίσκοπος ἐπ' αὐτούς, καὶ ᾿Ιούδα υἱὸς ᾿Ασανὰ ἀπὸ τῆς πόλεως δεύτερος· 10 ἀπὸ τῶν ἱερέων· καὶ ᾿Ιαδία υἱὸς ᾿Ιωρίβ, ᾿Ιαχίν, 11 Σαραία υἱὸς ᾿Ελχία, υἱὸς Μεσουλάμ, υἱὸς Σαδδούκ, υἱὸς Μαριώθ, υἱὸς Αἰτὼθ ἀπέναντι οἴκου τοῦ Θεοῦ. 12 καὶ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτῶν ποιοῦντες τὸ ἔργον τοῦ οἴκου ὀκτακόσιοι εἰκοσιδύο. καὶ ᾿Αδαΐα υἱὸς ῾Ιεροάμ, υἱοῦ Φαλαλία, υἱοῦ ᾿Αμασί, υἱὸς Ζαχαρία, υἱὸς Φασσούρ, υἱὸς Μελχία, 13 καὶ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ, ἄρχοντες πατριῶν διακόσιοι τεσσαρακονταδύο. καὶ ᾿Αμασία υἱὸς ᾿Εσδριήλ, υἱοῦ Μεσαριμίθ, υἱοῦ ᾿Εμμήρ, 14 καὶ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ δυνατοὶ παρατάξεως ἑκατὸν εἰκοσιοκτώ· καὶ ἐπίσκοπος Βαδιὴλ υἱὸς τῶν μεγάλων. 15 καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν Λευιτῶν Σαμαΐα υἱὸς ᾿Εσρικάμ, 17 Ματθανίας υἰὸς Μιχὰ καὶ ᾿Ιωβὴβ υἱὸς Σαμουΐ, 18 διακόσιοι ὀγδοηκοντατέσσαρες. 19 καὶ οἱ πυλωροὶ ᾿Ακούβ, Τελαμίν, καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτῶν, ἑκατὸν ἑβδομηκονταδύο. 22 καὶ ἐπίσκοπος Λευιτῶν υἱὸς Βανί, υἱὸς ᾿Οζί, υἱὸς ᾿Ασαβία, υἱὸς Μιχά. ἀπὸ υἱῶν ᾿Ασὰφ τῶν ἆδόντων ἀπέναντι ἔργου οἴκου τοῦ Θεοῦ·
23 ὅτι ἐντολὴ τοῦ βασιλέως εἰς αὐτούς.
24 καὶ Φαθαΐα υἱὸς Βασηζὰ πρὸς χεῖρα τοῦ βασιλέως εἰς πᾶν χρῆμα τῷ λαῷ. 25 καὶ πρὸς τὰς ἐπαύλεις ἐν ἀγρῷ αὐτῶν. καὶ ἀπὸ υἱῶν ᾿Ιούδα ἐκάθισαν ἐν Καριαθαρβὸκ
26 καὶ ἐν ᾿Ιησοῦ 27 καὶ ἐν Βηρσαβεέ, καὶ ἐπαύλεις αὐτῶν, 30 Λαχὶς καὶ ἀγροὶ αὐτῆς· καὶ παρενεβάλοσαν ἐν Βηρσαβεέ. 31 καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Βενιαμὶν ἀπὸ Γαβαὰ Μαχμάς.
36 καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν Λευιτῶν μερίδες ᾿Ιούδα τῷ Βενιαμίν.
ΚΑΙ οὗτοι οἱ ἱερεῖς καὶ οἱ Λευῖται οἱ ἀναβάντες μετὰ Ζοροβάβελ υἱοῦ Σαλαθιὴλ καὶ ᾿Ιησοῦ· Σαραΐα, ῾Ιερεμία, ῎Εσδρα, 2 ᾿Αμαρία, Μαλούχ, 3 Σεχενία· 7 οὗτοι οἱ ἄρχοντες τῶν ἱερέων καὶ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτῶν ἐν ἡμέραις ᾿Ιησοῦ. 8 καὶ οἱ Λευῖται, ᾿Ιησοῦ, Βανουΐ, Καδμιήλ, Σαραβία, ᾿Ιωδαέ, Ματθανία, ἐπὶ τῶν χειρῶν αὐτὸς καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτῶν εἰς τὰς ἐφημερίας. 10 καὶ ᾿Ιησοῦς ἐγέννησε τὸν ᾿Ιωακίμ, καὶ ᾿Ιωακὶμ ἐγέννησε τὸν ᾿Ελιασίβ, καὶ ᾿Ελιασὶβ τὸν ᾿Ιωδαέ, 11 καὶ ᾿Ιωδαὲ ἐγέννησε τὸν ᾿Ιωνάθαν, καὶ ᾿Ιωνάθαν ἐγέννησε τὸν ᾿Ιαδού. 12 καὶ ἐν ἡμέραις ᾿Ιωακὶμ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ οἱ ἱερεῖς καὶ οἱ ἄρχοντες τῶν πατριῶν· τῷ Σαραΐα ᾿Αμαρία, τῷ ῾Ιερεμίᾳ ᾿Ανανία, 13 τῷ ῎Εσδρᾳ Μεσουλάμ, τῷ ᾿Αμαρίᾳ ᾿Ιωανάν, 14 τῷ ᾿Αμαλοὺχ ᾿Ιωνάθαν, τῷ Σεχενίᾳ ᾿Ιωσήφ, 15 τῷ ᾿Αρὲ Μαννάς, τῷ Μαριὼθ ᾿Ελκαΐ, 16 τῷ ᾿Αδαδαΐ Ζαχαρία, τῷ Γαναθὼθ Μοσολάμ, 17 τῷ ᾿Αβιὰ Ζεχρί, τῷ Μιαμὶν Μααδαὶ τῷ Φελετί, 18 τῷ Βαλγὰς Σαμουέ, τῷ Σεμίᾳ ᾿Ιωνάθαν, 19 τῷ ᾿Ιωαρὶβ Ματθαναΐ, τῷ ᾿Εδίῳ ᾿Οζί, 20 τῷ Σαλαΐ Καλλαΐ, τῷ ᾿Αμὲκ ᾿Αβέδ, 21 τῷ ᾿Ελκίᾳ ᾿Ασαβίας, τῷ ᾿Ιεδεϊοὺ Ναθαναήλ. 22 οἱ Λευῖται ἐν ἡμέραις ᾿Ελιασίβ, ᾿Ιωαδὰ καὶ ᾿Ιωὰ καὶ ᾿Ιωανὰν καὶ ᾿Ιδούα, γεγραμμένοι ἄρχοντες τῶν πατριῶν, καὶ οἱ ἱερεῖς ἐν βασιλείᾳ Δαρείου τοῦ Πέρσου· 23 υἱοὶ δὲ Λευὶ ἄρχοντες τῶν πατριῶν γεγραμμένοι ἐπὶ βιβλίῳ λόγων τῶν ἡμερῶν καὶ ἕως ἡμερῶν ᾿Ιωανὰν υἱοῦ ᾿Ελισουέ. 24 καὶ οἱ ἄρχοντες τῶν Λευιτῶν ᾿Ασαβία καὶ Σαραβία καὶ ᾿Ιησοῦ καὶ υἱοὶ Καδμιὴλ καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτῶν κατεναντίον αὐτῶν εἰς ὕμνον αἰνεῖν ἐν ἐντολῇ Δαυὶδ ἀνθρώπου τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐφημερία πρὸς ἐφημερίαν 25 ἐν τῷ συναγαγεῖν με τοὺς πυλωροὺς 26 ἐν ἡμέραις ᾿Ιωακὶμ υἱοῦ ᾿Ιησοῦ, υἱοῦ ᾿Ιωσεδὲκ καὶ ἐν ἡμέραις Νεεμία, καὶ ῎Εσδρας ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ γραμματεύς. 27 Καί ἐν ἐγκαινίοις τείχους ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ ἐζήτησαν τοὺς Λευίτας ἐν τοῖς τόποις αὐτῶν τοῦ ἐνέγκαι αὐτοὺς εἰς ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ ποιῆσαι ἐγκαίνια καὶ εὐφροσύνην ἐν Θωδαθὰ καὶ ἐν ᾠδαῖς, κυμβαλίζοντες καὶ ψαλτήρια καὶ κινύραι. 28 καὶ συνήχθησαν οἱ υἱοὶ τῶν ἆδόντων καὶ ἀπὸ τῆς περιχώρου κυκλόθεν εἰς ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ καὶ ἀπὸ ἐπαύλεων 29 καὶ ἀπὸ ἀγρῶν· ὅτι ἐπαύλεις ᾠκοδόμησαν ἑαυτοῖς οἱ ᾄδοντες ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλήμ. 30 καὶ ἐκαθαρίσθησαν οἱ ἱερεῖς καὶ οἱ Λευῖται, καὶ ἐκαθάρισαν τὸν λαὸν καὶ τοὺς πυλωροὺς καὶ τὸ τεῖχος. 31 καὶ ἀνήνεγκα τοὺς ἄρχοντας ᾿Ιούδα ἐπάνω τοῦ τείχους καὶ ἔστησα δύο περὶ αἰνέσεως μεγάλους, καὶ διῆλθον ἐκ δεξιῶν ἐπάνω τοῦ τείχους τῆς κοπρίας, 32 καὶ ἐπορεύθη ὀπίσω αὐτῶν ᾿Ωσαΐα καὶ ἥμισυ ἀρχόντων ᾿Ιούδα 33 καὶ ᾿Αζαρίας καὶ ῎Εσδρας καὶ Μεσολλάμ, 34 καὶ ᾿Ιούδα καὶ Βενιαμὶν καὶ Σαμαΐας καὶ ῾Ιερεμία 35 καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν υἱῶν τῶν ἱερέων ἐν σάλπιγξι Ζαχαρίας υἱὸς ᾿Ιωνάθαν, υἱὸς Σαμαΐα, υἱὸς Ματθανία, υἱὸς Μιχαία, υἱὸς Ζακχούρ, υἱὸς ᾿Ασάφ· 36 καὶ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ Σαμαΐα καὶ ᾿Οζιήλ, Γελώλ, ᾿Ιαμά, ᾿Αΐα, Ναθαναὴλ καὶ ᾿Ιούδα, ᾿Ανανί, τοῦ αἰνεῖν ἐν ᾠδαῖς Δαυὶδ ἀνθρώπου Θεοῦ, καὶ ῎Εσδρας ὁ γραμματεὺς ἔμπροσθεν αὐτῶν· 37 ἐπὶ πύλης τοῦ αἲν κατέναντι αὐτῶν ἀνέβησαν ἐπὶ κλίμακας πόλεως Δαυὶδ ἐν ἀναβάσει τοῦ τείχους ἐπάνωθεν τοῦ οἴκου Δαυὶδ καὶ ἕως τῆς πύλης τοῦ ὕδατος κατὰ ἀνατολάς. 38 καὶ περὶ αἰνέσεως ἡ δευτέρα ἐπορεύετο συναντῶσα αὐτοῖς, καὶ τὸ ἥμισυ τοῦ λαοῦ ἐπάνω τοῦ τείχους ὑπεράνω τοῦ πύργου τῶν θεννουρὶμ καὶ ἕως τοῦ τείχους τοῦ πλατέος 39 καὶ ὑπεράνω τῆς πύλης ᾿Εφραὶμ καὶ ἐπὶ τὴν πύλην ἰχθυρὰν καὶ πύργῳ ᾿Αναμεὴλ καὶ ἕως πύλης τῆς προβατικῆς καὶ ἔστησαν ἐν πύλῃ τῆς φυλακῆς. 40 καὶ ἔστησαν αἱ δύο τῆς αἰνέσεως ἐν οἴκῳ τοῦ Θεοῦ, καὶ ἐγὼ καὶ τὸ ἥμισυ τῶν στρατηγῶν μετ' ἐμοῦ 41 καὶ οἱ ἱερεῖς ᾿Ελιακίμ, Μαασίας, Βενιαμίν, Μιχαίας, ᾿Ελιωηναί, Ζαχαρίας, ᾿Ανανίας ἐν σάλπιγξι καὶ Μαασίας καὶ Σεμεΐας καὶ ᾿Ελεάζαρ καὶ ᾿Οζὶ καὶ ᾿Ιωανὰθ καὶ Μελχίας καὶ Αἰλὰμ καὶ ᾿Εζούρ, 42 καὶ ἠκούσθησαν οἱ ᾄδοντες καὶ ἐπεσκέπησαν. 43 καὶ ἔθυσαν ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ θυσιάσματα μεγάλα καὶ ηὐφράνθησαν, ὅτι ὁ Θεὸς ηὔφρανεν αὐτοὺς μεγάλως. καὶ αἱ γυναῖκες αὐτῶν καὶ τὰ τέκνα αὐτῶν ηὐφράνθησαν, καὶ ἠκούσθη ἡ εὐφροσύνη ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ ἀπὸ μακρόθεν. 44 Καὶ κατέστησαν ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ ἄνδρας ἐπὶ τῶν γαζοφυλακίων, τοῖς θυσαυροῖς, ταῖς ἀπαρχαῖς καὶ ταῖς δεκάταις καὶ τοῖς συνηγμένοις ἐν αὐτοῖς ἄρχουσι τῶν πόλεων, μερίδας τοῖς ἱερεῦσι καὶ τοῖς Λευίταις, ὅτι εὐφροσύνη ἦν ἐν ᾿Ιούδᾳ ἐπὶ τοὺς ἱερεῖς καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς Λευίτας τοὺς ἑστῶτας. 45 καὶ ἐφύλαξαν φυλακὰς Θεοῦ αὐτῶν καὶ φυλακὰς τοῦ καθαρισμοῦ καὶ τοὺς ᾄδοντας καὶ τοὺς πυλωρούς, ὡς ἐντολαὶ Δαυὶδ καὶ Σαλωμὼν υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ. 46 ὅτι ἐν ἡμέραις Δαυὶδ ᾿Ασὰφ ἀπ' ἀρχῆς πρῶτος τῶν ἆδόντων καὶ ὕμνον καὶ αἴνεσιν τῷ Θεῷ.
47 καὶ πᾶς ᾿Ισραὴλ ἐν ἡμέραις Ζοροβάβελ καὶ ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις Νεεμίου διδόντες μερίδας τῶν ἆδόντων καὶ τῶν πυλωρῶν, λόγον ἡμέρας ἐν ἡμέρᾳ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἁγιάζοντες τοῖς Λευίταις, καὶ οἱ Λευῖται ἁγιάζοντες τοῖς υἱοῖς ᾿Ααρών.
Εν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ ἀνεγνώσθη ἐν βιβλίῳ Μωυσῆ ἐν ὠσὶ τοῦ λαοῦ καὶ εὑρέθη γεγραμμένον ἐν αὐτῷ, ὅπως μὴ εἰσέλθωσιν ᾿Αμμανῖται καὶ Μωαβῖται ἐν ἐκκλησίᾳ Θεοῦ ἕως αἰῶνος, 2 ὅτι οὐ συνήντησαν τοῖς υἱοῖς ᾿Ισραὴλ ἐν ἄρτῳ καὶ ὕδατι καὶ ἐμισθώσαντο ἐπ' αὐτὸν τὸν Βαλαὰμ καταράσασθαι, καὶ ἐπέστρεψεν ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν τὴν κατάραν εἰς εὐλογίαν. 3 καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἤκουσαν τὸν νόμον, καὶ ἐχωρίσθησαν πᾶς ἐπίμικτος ἐν ᾿Ισραήλ. 4 καὶ πρὸ τούτου ᾿Ελιασὶβ ὁ ἱερεὺς οἰκῶν ἐν γαζοφυλακίῳ οἴκου Θεοῦ ἡμῶν ἐγγίων Τωβίᾳ 5 καὶ ἐποίησεν ἑαυτῷ γαζοφυλάκιον μέγα, καὶ ἐκεῖ ἦσαν πρότερον διδόντες τὴν μαναὰν καὶ τὸν λίβανον καὶ τὰ σκεύη καὶ τὴν δεκάτην τοῦ σίτου καὶ τοῦ οἴνου καὶ τοῦ ἐλαίου, ἐντολὴν τῶν Λευιτῶν καὶ τῶν ἆδόντων καὶ τῶν πυλωρῶν καὶ ἀπαρχὰς τῶν ἱερέων. 6 καὶ ἐν παντὶ τούτῳ οὐκ ἤμην ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλήμ· ὅτι ἐν ἔτει τριακοστῷ καὶ δευτέρῳ τοῦ ᾿Αρθασασθὰ βασιλέως Βαβυλῶνος ἦλθον πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα. καὶ μετὰ τὸ τέλος τῶν ἡμερῶν ᾐτησάμην παρὰ τοῦ βασιλέως 7 καὶ ἦλθον εἰς ῾Ιερουσαλήμ. καὶ συνῆκα ἐν τῇ πονηρίᾳ, ᾖ ἐποίησεν ᾿Ελιασὶβ τῷ Τωβίᾳ, ποιῆσαι αὐτῷ γαζοφυλάκιον ἐν αὐλῇ οἴκου τοῦ Θεοῦ. 8 καὶ πονηρόν μοι ἐφάνη σφόδρα, καὶ ἔρριψα πάντα τὰ σκεύη οἴκου Τωβία ἔξω ἀπὸ τοῦ γαζοφυλακίου· 9 καὶ εἶπα καὶ ἐκαθάρισαν τὰ γαζοφυλάκια, καὶ ἐπέστρεψα ἐκεῖ σκεύη οἴκου τοῦ Θεοῦ, τὴν μαναὰν καὶ τὸν λίβανον. 10 καὶ ἔγνων ὅτι μερίδες τῶν Λευιτῶν οὐκ ἐδόθησαν, καὶ ἐφύγοσαν ἀνὴρ εἰς ἀγρὸν αὐτοῦ, οἱ Λευῖται καὶ οἱ ᾄδοντες ποιοῦντες τὸ ἔργον. 11 καὶ ἐμαχεσάμην τοῖς στρατηγοῖς καὶ εἶπα· διατί ἐγκατελείφθη ὁ οἶκος τοῦ Θεοῦ; καὶ συνήγαγον αὐτοὺς καὶ ἔστησα αὐτοὺς ἐπὶ τῇ στάσει αὐτῶν. 12 καὶ πᾶς ᾿Ιούδα ἤνεγκαν δεκάτην τοῦ πυροῦ καὶ τοῦ οἴνου καὶ τοῦ ἐλαίου εἰς τοὺς θησαυροὺς 13 ἐπὶ χεῖρα Σελεμία τοῦ ἱερέως καὶ Σαδδοὺκ τοῦ γραμματέως καὶ Φαδαΐα ἀπὸ τῶν Λευιτῶν, καὶ ἐπὶ χεῖρα αὐτῶν ᾿Ανὰν υἱὸς Ζακχούρ, υἱὸς Ματθανίου, ὅτι πιστοὶ ἐλογίσθησαν ἐπ' αὐτοὺς μερίζειν τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς αὐτῶν. 14 μνήσθητί μου, ὁ Θεός, ἐν ταύτῃ, καὶ μὴ ἐξαλειφθήτω ἔλεός μου, ὃ ἐποίησα ἐν οἴκῳ Κυρίου τοῦ Θεοῦ. 15 ᾿Εν ταῖς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις εἶδον ἐν ᾿Ιούδᾳ πατοῦντας ληνοὺς ἐν τῷ σαββάτῳ καὶ φέροντας δράγματα καὶ ἐπιγεμίζοντας ἐπὶ τοὺς ὄνους καὶ οἶνον καὶ σταφυλὴν καὶ σῦκα καὶ πᾶν βάσταγμα καὶ φέροντας εἰς ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ ἐν ἡμέρᾳ τοῦ σαββάτου· καὶ ἐπεμαρτυράμην ἐν ἡμέρᾳ πράσεως αὐτῶν. 16 καὶ ἐκάθισαν ἐν αὐτῇ φέροντες ἰχθὺν καὶ πᾶσαν πρᾶσιν πωλοῦντες ἐν τῷ σαββάτῳ τοῖς υἱοῖς ᾿Ιούδα καὶ ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλήμ. 17 καὶ ἐμαχεσάμην τοῖς υἱοῖς ᾿Ιούδα τοῖς ἐλευθέροις καὶ εἶπα αὐτοῖς· τίς ὁ λόγος οὗτος ὁ πονηρός, ὃν ὑμεῖς ποιεῖτε, καὶ βεβηλοῦτε τὴν ἡμέραν τοῦ σαββάτου; 18 οὐχὶ οὕτως ἐποίησαν οἱ πατέρες ὑμῶν, καὶ ἤνεγκεν ἐπ' αὐτοὺς ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν καὶ ἐφ' ἡμᾶς πάντα τὰ κακὰ ταῦτα καὶ ἐπὶ τὴν πόλιν ταύτην; καὶ ὑμεῖς προστίθετε ὀργὴν ἐπὶ ᾿Ισραὴλ βεβηλῶσαι τὸ σάββατον; 19 καὶ ἐγένετο ἡνίκα κατέστησαν πύλαι ἐν ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ πρὸ τοῦ σαββάτου, καὶ εἶπα καὶ ἔκλεισαν τὰς πύλας, καὶ εἶπα ὥστε μὴ ἀνοιγῆναι αὐτὰς ἕως ὀπίσω τοῦ σαββάτου· καὶ ἐκ τῶν παιδαρίων μου ἔστησα ἐπὶ τὰς πύλας, ὥστε μὴ αἴρειν βαστάγματα ἐν ἡμέρᾳ τοῦ σαββάτου. 20 καὶ ηὐλίσθησαν πάντες καὶ ἐποίησαν πρᾶσιν ἔξω ῾Ιερουσαλὴμ ἅπαξ καὶ δίς. 21 καὶ ἐπεμαρτυράμην ἐν αὐτοῖς καὶ εἶπα πρὸς αὐτούς· διατί ὑμεῖς αὐλίζεσθε ἀπέναντι τοῦ τείχους; ἐὰν δευτερώσητε, ἐκτενῶ χεῖρά μου ἐν ὑμῖν. ἀπὸ τοῦ καιροῦ ἐκείνου οὐκ ἤλθοσαν ἐν σαββάτῳ. 22 καὶ εἶπα τοῖς Λευίταις, οἳ ἦσαν καθαριζόμενοι, καὶ ἐρχόμενοι φυλάσσοντες τὰς πύλας, ἁγιάζειν τὴν ἡμέραν τοῦ σαββάτου. πρὸς ταῦτα μνήσθητί μου, ὁ Θεός, καὶ φεῖσαί μου κατὰ τὸ πλῆθος τοῦ ἐλέους σου. 23 Καὶ ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις εἶδον τοὺς ᾿Ιουδαίους, οἳ ἐκάθισαν γυναῖκας ᾿Αζωτίας, ᾿Αμμανίτιδας, Μωαβίτιδας 24 καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτῶν ἥμισυ λαλοῦντες ᾿Αζωτιστὶ καὶ οὐκ εἰσὶν ἐπιγινώσκοντες λαλεῖν ᾿Ιουδαϊστί,
25 καὶ ἐμαχεσάμην μετ' αὐτῶν καὶ κατηρασάμην αὐτοὺς καὶ ἐπάταξα ἐν αὐτοῖς ἄνδρας καὶ ἐμαδάρωσα αὐτοὺς καὶ ὥρκισα αὐτοὺς ἐν τῷ Θεῷ· ἐὰν δῶτε τὰς θυγατέρας ὑμῶν τοῖς υἱοῖς αὐτῶν, καὶ ἐὰν λάβητε ἀπὸ τῶν θυγατέρων αὐτῶν τοῖς υἱοῖς ὑμῶν. 26 οὐχ οὕτως ἥμαρτε Σαλωμὼν βασιλεὺς ᾿Ισραήλ; καὶ ἐν ἔθνεσι πολλοῖς οὐκ ἦν βασιλεὺς ὅμοιος αὐτῷ· καὶ ἀγαπώμενος τῷ Θεῷ ἦν, καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτὸν ὁ Θεὸς εἰς βασιλέα ἐπὶ πάντα ᾿Ισραήλ· καὶ τοῦτον ἐξέκλιναν αἱ γυναῖκες αἱ ἀλλότριαι. 27 καὶ ὑμῶν μὴ ἀκουσώμεθα ποιῆσαι τὴν πᾶσαν πονηρίαν ταύτην ἀσυνθετῆσαι ἐν τῷ Θεῷ ἡμῶν καθίσαι γυναῖκας ἀλλοτρίας; 28 καὶ ἀπὸ υἱῶν ᾿Ιωαδὰ τοῦ ᾿Ελισοὺβ τοῦ ἱερέως τοῦ μεγάλου νυμφίου τοῦ Σαναβαλλὰτ τοῦ Οὐρανίτου καὶ ἐξέβρασα αὐτὸν ἀπ' ἐμοῦ. 29 μνήσθητι αὐτοῖς, ὁ Θεός, ἐπὶ ἀγχιστείᾳ τῆς ἱερατείας καὶ διαθήκῃ τῆς ἱερατείας καὶ τοὺς Λευίτας. 30 καὶ ἐκαθάρισα αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ πάσης ἀλλοτριώσεως καὶ ἔστησα ἐφημερίας τοῖς ἱερεῦσι καὶ τοῖς Λευίταις, ἀνὴρ ὡς τὸ ἔργον αὐτοῦ, 31 καὶ τὸ δῶρον τῶν ξυλοφόρων ἐν καιροῖς ἀπὸ χρόνων καὶ ἐν τοῖς βακχουρίοις. μνήσθητί μου ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν εἰς ἀγαθωσύνην.

NEHEMIAH And the chiefs of the people dwelt in Jerusalem: and the rest of the people cast lots, to bring one of every ten to dwell in Jerusalem the holy city, and nine parts in the other cities.
2 And the people blessed all the men that volunteered to dwell in Jerusalem. 3 Now these are the chiefs of the province who dwelt in Jerusalem, and in the cities of Juda; every man dwelt in his possession in their cities: Israel, the priests, and the Levites, and the Nathinim, and the children of the servants of Solomon. 4 And there dwelt in Jerusalem some of the children of Juda, and of the children of Benjamin. Of the children of Juda; Athaia son of Azia, the son of Zacharia, the son of Samaria, the son of Saphatia, the son of Maleleel, and some of the sons of Phares; 5 and Maasia son of Baruch, son of Chalaza, son of Ozia, son of Adaia, son of Joarib, son of Zacharias, son of Seloni. 6 All the sons of Phares who dwelt in Jerusalem were four hundred and sixty-eight men of might. 7 And these were the children of Benjamin; Selo son of Mesulam, son of Joad, son of Phadaia, son of Coleia, son of Maasias, son of Ethiel, son of Jesia. 8 And after him Gebe, Seli, nine hundred and twenty-eight. 9 And Joel son of Zechri was overseer over them: and Juda son of Asana was second in the city. 10 Of the priests: both Jadia son of Joarib, and Jachin. 11 Saraia, son of Elchia, son of Mesulam, son of Sadduc, son of Marioth, son of Ætoth, was over the house of God. 12 And their brethren doing the work of the house were eight hundred and twenty-two: and Adaia son of Jeroam, son of Phalalia, son of Amasi, son of Zacharia, son of Phassur, son of Melchia, 13 and his brethren, chiefs of families, two hundred and forty-two: and Amasia son of Esdriel, son of Mesarimith, son of Emmer, 14 and his brethren, mighty men of war, a hundred and twenty-eight: and their overseer was Badiel son of one of the great men. 15 And of the Levites; Samaia, son of Esricam, 17 Matthanias son of Micha, and Jobeb son of Samui, 18 two hundred and eighty-four. 19 And the porters; Acub, Telamin, and their brethren, a hundred and seventy-two. 22 And the overseer of the Levites was the son of Bani, son of Ozi, son of Asabia, the son of Micha. Of the sons of Asaph the singers some were over the house of God, 23 For so was the king’s commandment concerning them. 24 And Phathaia son of Baseza was in attendance on the king in every matter for the people, 25 and with regard to villages in their country district: and some of the children of Juda dwelt in Cariatharboc, 26 and in Jesu, 27 and in Bersabee: 30 And their villages were Lachis and her hands: and they pitched their tents in Bersabee. 31 And the children of Benjamin dwelt from Gabaa to Machmas. 36 And of the Levites there were divisions to Juda and to Benjamin.
12 Now these are the priests and the Levites that went up with Zorobabel the son of Salathiel and Jesus: Saraia, Jeremia, Esdra, 2 Amaria, Maluch, 3 Sechenia. 7 These were the chiefs of the priests, and their brethren in the days of Jesus. 8 And the Levites were, Jesus, Banui, Cadmiel, Sarabia, Jodae, Matthania: he was over the bands, and his brethren were appointed to the daily courses. 10 And Jesus begot Joakim, and Joakim begot Eliasib, and Eliasib begot Jodae, 11 and Jodae begot Jonathan, and Jonathan begot Jadu. 12 And in the days of Joakim, his brethren the priests and the heads of families were, belonging to Saraia, Amaria; to Jeremia, Anania; 13 to Esdra, Mesulam; to Amaria, Joanan; 14 to Amaluch, Jonathan; to Sechenia, Joseph; 15 to Are, Mannas; to Marioth, Elcai; 16 to Adadai, Zacharia; to Ganathoth, Mesolam; 17 to Abia, Zechri; to Miamin, Maadai; to Pheleti, one; 18 to Balgas, Samue; to Semia, Jonathan; 19 to Joarib, Matthanai; to Edio, Ozi; 20 to Salai, Callai; to Amec, Abed; 21 to Elkia, Asabias; to Jedeiu, Nathanael. 22 The Levites in the days of Eliasib, Joada, and Joa, and Joanan, and Idua, were recorded heads of families: also the priests, in the reign of Darius the Persian.
23 And the sons of Levi, heads of families, were written in the book of the chronicles, even to the days of Joanan son of Elisue. 24 And the heads of the Levites were Asabia, and Sarabia, and Jesu: and the sons of Cadmiel, and their brethren over against them, were to sing hymns of praise, according to the commandment of David the man of God, course by course. 25 When I gathered the porters, 26 it was in the days of Joakim son of Jesus, son of Josedec, and in the days of Neemia: and Esdras the priest was scribe. 27 And at the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem they sought the Levites in their places, to bring them to Jerusalem, to keep a feast of dedication and gladness with thanksgiving, and they sounded cymbals with songs, and had psalteries and harps. 28 And the sons of the singers were assembled both from the neighbourhood round about to Jerusalem, and from the villages, 29 and from the country: for the singers built themselves villages by Jerusalem. 30 And the priests and the Levites purified themselves, and they purified the people, and the porters, and the wall. 31 And they brought up the princes of Juda on the wall, and they appointed two great companies for thanksgiving, and they passed on the right hand on the wall of the dung-gate. 32 And after them went Osaia, and half the princes of Juda, 33 and Azarias, and Esdras, and Mesollam, 34 and Juda, and Benjamin, and Samaias and Jeremia.
35 And some of the sons of the priest with trumpets, Zacharias son of Jonathan, son of Samaias, son of Matthania, son of Michaia, son of Zacchur, son of Asaph: 36 and his brethren, Samaia, and Oziel, Gelol, Jama, Aia, Nathanael, and Juda, Anani, to praise with the hymns of David the man of God; and Esdras the scribe was before them, 37 at the gate, to praise before them, and they went up by the steps of the city of David, in the ascent of the wall, above the house of David, even to the water-gate toward the east. 38 and concerning the second group of praise it proceeded and I met them, and the half of the people were above the wall of the tower of Thennurim as far as the broad wall 39 and above the gate of Ephraim, and to the fish-gate, and by the tower of Anameel, and as far as the sheep-gate. and they stood in the gate of the guard.
40 and the two groups of praise stood in the house of God, and I and half of the generals with me
41 and the priests Eliacim, Maasias, Beniamin, Michaeas, Elioenai, Zacharias, Ananias with their trumpets and Maasias and Semeias and Eleazar and Ozi and Joanath and Melchias and Elam and Ezur,
42 And the singers were heard, and were numbered. 43 And in that day they offered great sacrifices, and rejoiced; for God had made them very joyful: and their wives and their children rejoiced: and the joy in Jerusalem was heard from afar off.
44 And in that day they appointed men over the treasuries, for the treasures, the first-fruits, and the tithes, and for the chiefs of the cities who were assembled among them, to furnish portions for the priests and Levites: for there was joy in Juda over the priests and over the Levites that waited.
45 And they kept the charges of their God, and the charges of the purification, and ordered the singers and the porters, according to the commandments of David and his son Solomon. 46 For in the days of David Asaph was originally first of the singers, and they sang hymns and praise to God. 47 And all Israel in the days of Zorobabel, and in the days of Neemias, gave the portions of the singers and the porters, a daily rate: and consecrated them to the Levites: and the Levites consecrated them to the sons of Aaron.
13 In that day they read in the book of Moses in the ears of the people; and it was found written in it, that the Ammonites and Moabites should not enter into the congregation of God for ever; 2 because they met not the children of Israel with bread and water, but hired Balaam against them to curse them: but our God turned the curse into a blessing. 3 And it came to pass, when they heard the law, that they were separated, even every alien in Israel. 4 And before this time Eliasib the priest dwelt in the treasury of the house of our God, connected with Tobias; 5 and he made himself a great treasury, and there they were formerly in the habit of bestowing the offerings, and the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithe of the corn, and the wine, and the oil, the ordered portion of the Levites, and singers, and porters; and the first-fruits of the priests. 6 But in all this time I was not in Jerusalem; for in the thirty-second year of Arthasastha king of Babylon I came to the king, and after a certain time I made my request of the king; 7 and I came to Jerusalem, and I understood the mischief which Eliasib had done in the case of Tobias, in making for him a treasury in the court of the house of God. 8 And it appeared very evil to me: so I cast forth all the furniture of the house of Tobias from the treasury. 9 And I gave orders, and they purified the treasuries: and I restored thither the vessels of the house of God, and the offerings, and the frankincense. 10 And I understood that the portion of the Levites had not been given: and they had fled every one to his field, the Levites and the singers doing the work. 11 And I strove with the commanders, and said, Wherefore has the house of God been abandoned? and I assembled them, and set them in their place. 12 And all Juda brought a tithe of the wheat and the wine and the oil into the treasuries, 13 to the charge of Selemia the priest, and Sadoc the scribe, and Phadaea of the Levites: and next to them was Anan the son of Zacchur, son of Matthanias; for they were accounted faithful: it was their office to distribute to their brethren. 14 Remember me, O God, in this, and let not my kindness be forgotten which I have wrought in regard to the house of the Lord God. 15 In those days I saw in Juda men treading wine-presses on the sabbath, and carrying sheaves, and loading asses with both wine, and grapes, and figs, and every kind of burden, and bringing them into Jerusalem on the sabbath-day: and I testified in the day of their sale.
16 Also their dwelt in it men bringing fish, and selling every kind of merchandise to the children of Juda and in Jerusalem on the sabbath. 17 And I strove with the free children of Juda, and said to them, What is this evil thing which ye do, and profane the sabbath-day?
18 Did not your fathers thus, and our God brought upon them and upon us and upon this city all these evils? and do ye bring additional wrath upon Israel by profaning the sabbath?
19 And it came to pass, when the gates were set up in Jerusalem, before the sabbath, that I spoke, and they shut the gates; and I gave orders that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and I set some of my servants at the gates, that none should bring in burdens on the sabbath-day. 20 So all the merchants lodged, and carried on traffic without Jerusalem once or twice. 21 Then I testified against them, and said to them, Why do ye lodge in front of the wall? if ye do so again, I will stretch out my hand upon you. From that time they came not on the sabbath.
22 and I told the Levites who were purifying themselves, and came and kept the gates, that they should sanctify the sabbath-day. Remember me, O God, for these things, and spare me according to the abundance of thy mercy. 23 And in those days I saw the Jews who had married women of Ashdod, of Ammon, and of Moab:
24 and their children spoke half in the language of Ashdod, and did not know how to speak in the Jewish language. 25 And I strove with them and cursed them; and I smote some of them, and plucked off their hair, and made them swear by God, saying,Ye shall not give your daughters to their sons, and ye shall not take of their daughters to your sons.
26 Did not Solomon king of Israel sin thus? though there was no king like him among many nations, and he was beloved of God, and God made him king over all Israel; yet strange women turned him aside.
27 So we will not hearken to you to do all this evil, to break covenant with our God, —to marry strange wives. 28 and Elisub the high priest, one of the sons of Joada, being son-in-law of Sanaballat the Uranite, I chased him away from me. 29 Remember them, O God, for their false connection with the priesthood, and the breaking the covenant of the priesthood, and for defiling the Levites. 30 So I purged them from all foreign connection, and established courses for the priests and the Levites, every man according to his work. 31 And the offering of the wood-bearers was at certain set times, and in the times of the first-fruits. Remember me, O our God, for good.
