ΙΗΣΟΥΣ ΝΑΥΗ 21 ΚΑΙ προσήλθοσαν οἱ ἀρχιπατριῶται τῶν υἱῶν Λευὶ πρὸς ᾿Ελεάζαρ τὸν ἱερέα καὶ ᾿Ιησοῦν τὸν τοῦ Ναυὴ καὶ πρὸς τοὺς ἀρχιφύλους πατριῶν ἐκ τῶν φυλῶν ᾿Ισραὴλ 2 καὶ εἶπον πρὸς αὐτοὺς ἐν Σηλὼ ἐν γῇ Χαναὰν λέγοντες· ἐνετείλατο Κύριος ἐν χειρὶ Μωυσῆ δοῦναι ἡμῖν πόλεις κατοικεῖν καὶ τὰ περισπόρια τοῖς κτήνεσιν ἡμῶν. 3 καὶ ἔδωκαν οἱ υἱοὶ ᾿Ισραὴλ τοῖς λευίταις ἐν τῷ κατακληρονομεῖν διὰ προστάγματος Κυρίου τὰς πόλεις καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῶν. 4 καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ὁ κλῆρος τῷ δήμῳ Καάθ, καὶ ἐγένετο τοῖς υἱοῖς ᾿Ααρὼν τοῖς ἱερεῦσι τοῖς Λευίταις ἀπὸ φυλῆς ᾿Ιούδα καὶ ἀπὸ φυλῆς Συμεὼν καὶ ἀπὸ φυλῆς Βενιαμὶν κληρωτὶ πόλεις δεκατρεῖς· 5 καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς Καὰθ καταλελειμμένοις ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς ᾿Εφραὶμ καὶ ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς Δὰν καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ ἡμίσους φυλῆς Μανασσῆ κληρωτὶ πόλεις δέκα· 6 καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς Γεδσὼν ἀπὸ τῆς φυλῆς ᾿Ισσάχαρ καὶ ἀπὸ τῆς φυλῆς ᾿Ασὴρ καὶ ἀπὸ τῆς φυλῆς Νεφθαλὶ καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ ἡμίσους φυλῆς Μανασσῆ ἐν τῇ Βασὰν πόλεις δεκατρεῖς· 7 καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς Μεραρὶ κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν ἀπὸ φυλῆς Ρουβὴν καὶ ἀπὸ φυλῆς Γὰδ καὶ ἀπὸ φυλῆς Ζαβουλὼν κληρωτὶ πόλεις δώδεκα.
8 καὶ ἔδωκαν οἱ υἱοὶ ᾿Ισραὴλ τοῖς Λευίταις τὰς πόλεις καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῶν, ὃν τρόπον ἐνετείλατο Κύριος τῷ Μωυσῇ, κληρωτί. 9 καὶ ἔδωκεν ἡ φυλὴ υἱῶν ᾿Ιούδα καὶ ἡ φυλὴ υἱῶν Συμεὼν καὶ ἀπὸ τῆς φυλῆς υἱῶν Βενιαμὶν τὰς πόλεις ταύτας, καὶ ἐπεκλήθησαν
10 τοῖς υἱοῖς ᾿Ααρὼν ἀπὸ τοῦ δήμου τοῦ Καὰθ τῶν υἱῶν Λευί, ὅτι τούτοις ἐγενήθη ὁ κλῆρος. 11 καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτοῖς τὴν Καριαθαρβὸκ μητρόπολιν τῶν ᾿Ενὰκ (αὕτη ἐστὶ Χεβρὼν) ἐν τῷ ὄρει ᾿Ιούδα· τὰ δὲ περισπόρια κύκλῳ αὐτῆς 12 καὶ τοὺς ἀγροὺς τῆς πόλεως καὶ τὰς κώμας αὐτῆς ἔδωκεν ᾿Ιησοῦς τοῖς υἱοῖς Χάλεβ υἱοῦ ᾿Ιεφοννὴ ἐν κατασχέσει· 13 καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς ᾿Ααρὼν ἔδωκε τὴν πόλιν φυγαδευτήριον τῷ φονεύσαντι, τὴν Χεβρὼν καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα τὰ σὺν αὐτῇ καὶ τὴν Λεμνὰ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα τὰ πρὸς αὐτῇ. 14 καὶ τὴν Αἰλὼμ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ τὴν Τεμὰ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ 15 καὶ τὴν Γελλὰ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ τὴν Δαβὶρ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ 16 καὶ ᾿Ασὰ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ Τανὺ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ Βαιθσαμὺς καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ, πόλεις ἐννέα παρὰ τῶν δύο φυλῶν τούτων. 17 καὶ παρὰ τῆς φυλῆς Βενιαμὶν τὴν Γαβαὼν καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ Γαθὲθ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ 18 καὶ ᾿Αναθὼθ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ Γάμαλα καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ, πόλεις τέσσαρες. 19 πᾶσαι αἱ πόλεις υἱῶν ᾿Ααρὼν τῶν ἱερέων δεκατρεῖς. 20 καὶ τοῖς δήμοις υἱοῖς Καὰθ τοῖς Λευίταις τοῖς καταλελειμμένοις ἀπὸ τῶν υἱῶν Καὰθ καὶ ἐγενήθη ἡ πόλις τῶν ἱερέων αὐτῶν ἀπὸ φυλῆς ᾿Εφραίμ, 21 καὶ ἔδωκαν αὐτοῖς τὴν πόλιν τοῦ φυγαδευτηρίου τὴν τοῦ φονεύσαντος, τὴν Συχὲμ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ Γάζαρα καὶ τὰ πρὸς αὐτὴν καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ 22 καὶ Βαιθωρὼν καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα τὰ αὐτῇ, πόλεις τέσσαρες. 23 καὶ ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς Δὰν τὴν ᾿Ελκωθαὶμ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ τὴν Γεθεδὰν καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ 24 καὶ Αἰλὼν καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ τὴν Γεθερεμμὼν καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ, πόλεις τέσσαρες. 25 καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ ἡμίσους φυλῆς Μανασσῆ τὴν Τανὰχ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ τὴν ᾿Ιεβαθὰ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ, πόλεις δύο. 26 πᾶσαι πόλεις δέκα καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ τὰ πρὸς αὐταῖς τοῖς δήμοις υἱῶν Καὰθ τοῖς ὑπολελειμμένοις. 27 καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς Γεδσὼν τοῖς Λευίταις ἐκ τοῦ ἡμίσους φυλῆς Μανασσῆ τὰς πόλεις τὰς ἀφωρισμένας τοῖς φονεύσασι, τὴν Γαυλὼν ἐν τῇ Βασανίτιδι καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ τὴν Βοσορὰν καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ, πόλεις δύο. 28 καὶ ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς ᾿Ισσάχαρ τὴν Κισὼν καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ τὴν Δεββὰ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ 29 καὶ τὴν Ρεμμὰθ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ Πηγὴν γραμμάτων καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ, πόλεις τέσσαρες. 30 καὶ ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς ᾿Ασὴρ τὴν Βασελλὰν καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ τὴν Δαββὼν καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ 31 καὶ Χελκὰτ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ τὴν Ραὰβ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ, πόλεις τέσσαρες. 32 καὶ ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς Νεφθαλὶ τὴν πόλιν τὴν ἀφωρισμένην τῷ φονεύσαντι, τὴν Κάδης ἐν τῇ Γαλιλαίᾳ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ τὴν ᾿Εμμὰθ καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ καὶ Θεμμὼν καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῇ, πόλεις τρεῖς. 33 πᾶσαι αἱ πόλεις τοῦ Γεδσὼν κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν πόλεις δεκατρεῖς. 34 καὶ τῷ δήμῳ υἱῶν Μεραρὶ τοῖς Λευίταις τοῖς λοιποῖς ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς Ζαβουλὼν τὴν Μαὰν καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς καὶ τὴν Κάδης καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς 35 καὶ Σελλὰ καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς, πόλεις τρεῖς. 36 καὶ πέραν τοῦ ᾿Ιορδάνου τοῦ κατὰ ῾Ιεριχὼ ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς Ρουβήν, τὴν πόλιν τὸ φυγαδευτήριον τοῦ φονεύσαντος, τὴν Βοσὸρ ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ τῇ Μισὼρ καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς καὶ τὴν ᾿Ιαζὴρ καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς 37 καὶ τὴν Δεκμὼν καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς καὶ τὴν Μαφὰ καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς, πόλεις τέσσαρες. 38 καὶ ἀπὸ φυλῆς Γὰδ τὴν πόλιν τὸ φυγαδευτήριον τοῦ φονεύσαντος, τὴν Ραμὼθ ἐν τῇ Γαλαὰδ καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς καὶ τὴν Καμὶν καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς 39 καὶ τὴν ᾿Εσεβὼν καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς καὶ τὴν ᾿Ιαζὴρ καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῆς, πᾶσαι αἱ πόλεις τέσσαρες. 40 πᾶσαι αἱ πόλεις τοῖς υἱοῖς Μεραρὶ κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν τῶν καταλελειμμένων ἀπὸ τῆς φυλῆς τῆς Λευί· καὶ ἐγενήθη τὰ ὅρια πόλεις δεκαδύο.
41 πᾶσαι αἱ πόλεις τῶν Λευιτῶν ἐν μέσῳ κατασχέσεως υἱῶν ᾿Ισραὴλ τεσσαράκοντα ὀκτὼ πόλεις καὶ τὰ περισπόρια αὐτῶν κύκλῳ τῶν πόλεων τούτων, 42 πόλις καὶ τὰ περισπόρια κύκλῳ τῆς πόλεως πάσαις ταῖς πόλεσι ταύταις. 42α Καὶ συνετέλεσεν ᾿Ιησοῦς διαμερίσας τὴν γῆν ἐν τοῖς ὁρίοις αὐτῶν. 42β καὶ ἔδωκαν οἱ υἱοὶ ᾿Ισραὴλ μερίδα τῷ ᾿Ιησοῖ κατὰ πρόσταγμα Κυρίου· ἔδωκαν αὐτῷ τὴν πόλιν, ἣν ᾐτήσατο· τὴν Θαμνασαρὰχ ἔδωκαν αὐτῷ ἐν τῷ ὄρει ᾿Εφραίμ. 42γ καὶ ᾠκοδόμησεν ᾿Ιησοῦς τὴν πόλιν καὶ ᾤκησεν ἐν αὐτῇ. 42δ καὶ ἔλαβεν ᾿Ιησοῦς τὰς μαχαίρας τὰς πετρίνας, ἐν αἷς περιέτεμε τοὺς υἱοὺς ᾿Ισραὴλ τοὺς γενομένους ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ, καὶ ἔθηκεν αὐτὰς ἐν Θαμνασαράχ. 43 Καὶ ἔδωκε Κύριος τῷ ᾿Ισραὴλ πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν, ἣν ὤμοσε δοῦναι τοῖς πατράσιν αὐτῶν, καὶ κατεκληρονόμησαν αὐτὴν καὶ κατῴκησαν ἐν αὐτῇ. 44 καὶ κατέπαυσεν αὐτοὺς Κύριος κυκλόθεν, καθὰ ὤμοσε τοῖς πατράσιν αὐτῶν· οὐκ ἀντέστη οὐθεὶς κατενώπιον αὐτῶν ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν ἐχθρῶν αὐτῶν· πάντας τοὺς ἐχθροὺς αὐτῶν παρέδωκε Κύριος εἰς τὰς χεῖρας αὐτῶν. 45 οὐ διέπεσεν ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν ρημάτων τῶν καλῶν, ὧν ἐλάλησε Κύριος τοῖς υἱοῖς ᾿Ισραήλ· πάντα παρεγένετο.
ΤΟΤΕ συνεκάλεσεν ᾿Ιησοῦς τοὺς υἱοὺς Ρουβὴν καὶ τοὺς υἱοὺς Γὰδ καὶ τὸ ἥμισυ φυλῆς Μανασσῆ 2 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· ὑμεῖς ἀκηκόατε πάντα, ὅσα ἐνετείλατο ὑμῖν Μωυσῆς ὁ παῖς Κυρίου, καὶ ὑπηκούσατε τῆς φωνῆς μου κατὰ πάντα ὅσα ἐνετειλάμην ὑμῖν. 3 οὐκ ἐγκαταλελοίπατε τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς ὑμῶν ταύτας τὰς ἡμέρας καὶ πλείους ἕως τῆς σήμερον ἡμέρας· ἐφυλάξασθε τὴν ἐντολὴν Κυρίου τοῦ Θεοῦ ὑμῶν. 4 νῦν δὲ κατέπαυσε Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς ἡμῶν, ὃν τρόπον εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· νῦν οὖν ἀποστραφέντες ἀπέλθατε εἰς τοὺς οἴκους ὑμῶν καὶ εἰς τὴν γῆν τῆς κατασχέσεως ὑμῶν, ἣν ἔδωκεν ὑμῖν Μωυσῆς ἐν τῷ πέραν τοῦ ᾿Ιορδάνου. 5 ἀλλὰ φυλάξασθε σφόδρα ποιεῖν τὰς ἐντολὰς καὶ τὸν νόμον, ὃν ἐνετείλατο ἡμῖν ποιεῖν Μωυσῆς ὁ παῖς Κυρίου, ἀγαπᾶν Κύριον τὸν Θεὸν ἡμῶν, πορεύεσθαι πάσαις ταῖς ὁδοῖς αὐτοῦ, φυλάξασθαι τὰς ἐντολὰς αὐτοῦ καὶ προσκεῖσθαι αὐτῷ καὶ λατρεύειν αὐτῷ ἐξ ὅλης τῆς διανοίας ὑμῶν καὶ ἐξ ὅλης τῆς ψυχῆς ὑμῶν. 6 καὶ εὐλόγησεν αὐτοὺς ᾿Ιησοῦς καὶ ἐξαπέστειλεν αὐτούς, καὶ ἐπορεύθησαν εἰς τοὺς οἴκους αὐτῶν. 7 καὶ τῷ ἡμίσει φυλῆς Μανασσῆ ἔδωκε Μωυσῆς ἐν τῇ Βασανίτιδι, καὶ τῷ ἡμίσει ἔδωκεν ᾿Ιησοῦς μετὰ τῶν ἀδελφῶν αὐτοῦ ἐν τῷ πέραν τοῦ ᾿Ιορδάνου παρὰ τὴν θάλασσαν. καὶ ἡνίκα ἐξαπέστειλεν αὐτοὺς ᾿Ιησοῦς εἰς τοὺς οἴκους αὐτῶν καὶ εὐλόγησεν αὐτούς, 8 καὶ ἐν χρήμασι πολλοῖς ἀπήλθοσαν εἰς τοὺς οἴκους αὐτῶν, καὶ κτήνη πολλὰ σφόδρα καὶ ἀργύριον καὶ χρυσίον καὶ σίδηρον καὶ ἱματισμὸν πολὺν διείλαντο τὴν προνομὴν τῶν ἐχθρῶν μετὰ τῶν ἀδελφῶν αὐτῶν. 9 Καὶ ἐπορεύθησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ρουβὴν καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Γὰδ καὶ τὸ ἥμισυ φυλῆς Μανασσῆ ἀπὸ τῶν υἱῶν ᾿Ισραὴλ ἐκ Σηλὼ ἐν γῇ Χαναὰν ἀπελθεῖν εἰς τὴν Γαλαὰδ εἰς γῆν κατασχέσεως αὐτῶν, ἣν ἐκληρονόμησαν αὐτὴν διὰ προστάγματος Κυρίου ἐν χειρὶ Μωυσῆ. 10 καὶ ἦλθον εἰς Γάλγαλα τοῦ ᾿Ιορδάνου, ἥ ἐστιν ἐν γῇ Χαναάν, καὶ ᾠκοδόμησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ρουβὴν καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Γὰδ καὶ τὸ ἥμισυ φυλῆς Μανασσῆ ἐκεῖ βωμὸν ἐπὶ τοῦ ᾿Ιορδάνου, βωμὸν μέγαν τοῦ ἰδεῖν. 11 καὶ ἤκουσαν οἱ υἱοὶ ᾿Ισραὴλ λεγόντων· ἰδοὺ ᾠκοδομήκασιν οἱ υἱοὶ Ρουβὴν καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Γὰδ καὶ τὸ ἥμισυ φυλῆς Μανασσῆ βωμὸν ἐφ' ὁρίων γῆς Χαναὰν ἐπὶ τοῦ Γαλαὰδ τοῦ ᾿Ιορδάνου ἐν τῷ πέραν υἱῶν ᾿Ισραήλ. 12 καὶ συνηθροίσθησαν πάντες οἱ υἱοὶ ᾿Ισραὴλ εἰς Σηλώ, ὥστε ἀναβάντες ἐκπολεμῆσαι αὐτούς. 13 καὶ ἀπέστειλαν οἱ υἱοὶ ᾿Ισραὴλ πρὸς τοὺς υἱοὺς Ρουβὴν καὶ πρὸς τοὺς υἱοὺς Γὰδ καὶ πρὸς τοὺς υἱοὺς ἥμισυ φυλῆς Μανασσῆ εἰς γῆν Γαλαὰδ τόν τε Φινεὲς υἱὸν ᾿Ελεάζαρ υἱοῦ ᾿Ααρὼν τοῦ ἀρχιερέως 14 καὶ δέκα τῶν ἀρχόντων μετ' αὐτοῦ, ἄρχων εἷς ἀπὸ οἴκου πατριᾶς ἀπὸ πασῶν φυλῶν ᾿Ισραήλ· ἄρχοντες οἴκων πατριῶν εἰσι, χιλίαρχοι ᾿Ισραήλ.
15 καὶ παρεγένοντο πρὸς τοὺς υἱοὺς Ρουβὴν καὶ πρὸς τοὺς υἱοὺς Γὰδ καὶ πρὸς τοὺς ἡμίσεις φυλῆς Μανασσῆ εἰς γῆν Γαλαὰδ καὶ ἐλάλησαν πρὸς αὐτοὺς λέγοντες· 16 τάδε λέγει πᾶσα ἡ συναγωγὴ Κυρίου· τίς ἡ πλημμέλεια αὕτη, ἣν ἐπλημμελήσατε ἐναντίον τοῦ Θεοῦ ᾿Ισραήλ, ἀποστραφῆναι σήμερον ἀπὸ Κυρίου οἰκοδομήσαντες ὑμῖν ἑαυτοῖς βωμόν, ἀποστάτας ὑμᾶς γενέσθαι ἀπὸ τοῦ Κυρίου; 17 μὴ μικρὸν ὑμῖν τὸ ἁμάρτημα Φογώρ; ὅτι οὐκ ἐκαθαρίσθημεν ἀπ' αὐτοῦ ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης καὶ ἐγενήθη πληγὴ ἐν τῇ συναγωγῇ Κυρίου.
18 καὶ ὑμεῖς ἀπεστράφητε σήμερον ἀπὸ Κυρίου; καὶ ἔσται ἐὰν ἀποστῆτε σήμερον ἀπὸ Κυρίου, καὶ αὔριον ἐπὶ πάντα ᾿Ισραὴλ ἔσται ἡ ὀργή. 19 καὶ νῦν εἰ μικρὰ ἡ γῆ ὑμῶν τῆς κατασχέσεως ὑμῶν, διάβητε εἰς τὴν γῆν τῆς Κυρίου κατασχέσεως, οὗ κατασκηνοῖ ἐκεῖ ἡ σκηνὴ Κυρίου, καὶ κατακληρονομήσατε ἐν ἡμῖν· καὶ μὴ ἀπὸ Θεοῦ ἀποστάται γενήθητε καὶ ὑμεῖς μηδ' ἀπόστητε ἀπὸ Κυρίου διὰ τὸ οἰκοδομῆσαι ὑμᾶς βωμὸν ἔξω τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου Κυρίου τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν. 20 οὐκ ἰδοὺ ῎Αχαρ ὁ τοῦ Ζαρᾶ πλημμελείᾳ ἐπλημμέλησεν ἀπὸ τοῦ ἀναθέματος καὶ ἐπὶ πᾶσαν συναγωγὴν ᾿Ισραὴλ ἐγενήθη ὀργή; καὶ οὗτος εἷς αὐτὸς ἀπέθανε τῇ ἑαυτοῦ ἁμαρτίᾳ. 21 Καὶ ἀπεκρίθησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ρουβὴν καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Γὰδ καὶ τὸ ἥμισυ φυλῆς Μανασσῆ καὶ ἐλάλησαν τοῖς χιλιάρχοις ᾿Ισραὴλ λέγοντες· 22 ὁ Θεὸς Θεὸς Κύριός ἐστι, καὶ ὁ Θεὸς Θεὸς αὐτὸς οἶδε, καὶ ᾿Ισραὴλ αὐτὸς γνώσεται· εἰ ἐν ἀποστασίᾳ ἐπλημμελήσαμεν ἔναντι τοῦ Κυρίου, μὴ ρύσαιτο ἡμᾶς ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ταύτῃ· 23 καὶ εἰ ᾠκοδομήσαμεν ἑαυτοῖς βωμὸν ὥστε ἀποστῆναι ἀπὸ Κυρίου τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν, ὥστε ἀναβιβάσαι ἐπ' αὐτὸν θυσίαν ὁλοκαυτωμάτων ἢ ὥστε ποιῆσαι ἐπ' αὐτοῦ θυσίαν σωτηρίου, Κύριος ἐκζητήσει. 24 ἀλλ' ἕνεκεν εὐλαβείας ρήματος ἐποιήσαμεν τοῦτο λέγοντες· ἵνα μὴ εἴπωσιν αὔριον τὰ τέκνα ὑμῶν τοῖς τέκνοις ἡμῶν, τί ὑμῖν καὶ Κυρίῳ τῷ Θεῷ ᾿Ισραήλ; 25 καὶ ὅρια ἔθηκε Κύριος ἀνὰ μέσον ἡμῶν καὶ ὑμῶν τὸν ᾿Ιορδάνην, καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ὑμῖν μερὶς Κυρίου. καὶ ἀπαλλοτριώσουσιν οἱ υἱοὶ ὑμῶν τοὺς υἱοὺς ἡμῶν, ἵνα μὴ σέβωνται Κύριον. 26 καὶ εἴπαμεν ποιῆσαι οὕτω, τοῦ οἰκοδομῆσαι τὸν βωμὸν τοῦτον οὐχ ἕνεκεν καρπωμάτων οὐδὲ ἕνεκεν θυσιῶν, 27 ἀλλ' ἵνα ᾖ τοῦτο μαρτύριον ἀνὰ μέσον ἡμῶν καὶ ὑμῶν καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον τῶν γενεῶν ἡμῶν μεθ' ἡμᾶς, τοῦ λατρεύειν λατρείαν Κυρίου ἐναντίον αὐτοῦ, ἐν τοῖς καρπώμασιν ἡμῶν καὶ ἐν ταῖς θυσίαις ἡμῶν καὶ ἐν ταῖς θυσίαις τῶν σωτηρίων ἡμῶν· καὶ οὐκ ἐροῦσι τὰ τέκνα ὑμῶν τοῖς τέκνοις ἡμῶν αὔριον· οὐκ ἔστιν ὑμῖν μερὶς Κυρίου. 28 καὶ εἴπομεν· ἐὰν γένηταί ποτε καὶ λαλήσωσι πρὸς ἡμᾶς καὶ ταῖς γενεαῖς ἡμῶν αὔριον, καὶ ἐροῦσιν· ἴδετε ὁμοίωμα τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου Κυρίου, ὃ ἐποίησαν οἱ πατέρες ἡμῶν οὐχ ἕνεκεν καρπωμάτων οὐδὲ ἕνεκεν θυσιῶν, ἀλλὰ μαρτύριόν ἐστιν ἀνὰ μέσον ὑμῶν καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον ἡμῶν καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον τῶν υἱῶν ἡμῶν. 29 μὴ γένοιτο οὖν ἡμᾶς ἀποστραφῆναι ἀπὸ Κυρίου ἐν τῇ σήμερον ἡμέρᾳ ἀποστῆναι ἀπὸ Κυρίου, ὥστε οἰκοδομῆσαι ἡμᾶς θυσιαστήριον τοῖς καρπώμασι καὶ ταῖς θυσίαις Σαλαμὶν καὶ τῇ θυσίᾳ τοῦ σωτηρίου, πλὴν τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου Κυρίου, ὅ ἐστιν ἐναντίον τῆς σκηνῆς αὐτοῦ. 30 Καὶ ἀκούσας Φινεὲς ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ πάντες οἱ ἄρχοντες τῆς συναγωγῆς ᾿Ισραήλ, οἳ ἦσαν μετ' αὐτοῦ, τοὺς λόγους, οὓς ἐλάλησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ρουβὴν καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Γὰδ καὶ τὸ ἥμισυ φυλῆς Μανασσῆ, καὶ ἤρεσεν αὐτοῖς. 31 καὶ εἶπε Φινεὲς ὁ ἱερεὺς τοῖς υἱοῖς Ρουβὴν καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς Γὰδ καὶ τῷ ἡμίσει φυλῆς Μανασσῆ· σήμερον ἐγνώκαμεν ὅτι μεθ' ἡμῶν Κύριος, διότι οὐκ ἐπλημμελήσατε ἐναντίον Κυρίου πλημμέλειαν καὶ ὅτι ἐρρύσασθε τοὺς υἱοὺς ᾿Ισραὴλ ἐκ χειρὸς Κυρίου. 32 καὶ ἀπέστρεψε Φινεὲς ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ οἱ ἄρχοντες ἀπὸ τῶν υἱῶν Ρουβὴν καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν υἱῶν Γὰδ καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ ἡμίσους φυλῆς Μανασσῆ ἐκ τῆς Γαλαὰδ εἰς γῆν Χαναὰν πρὸς τοὺς υἱοὺς ᾿Ισραὴλ καὶ ἀπεκρίθησαν αὐτοῖς τοὺς λόγους, 33 καὶ ἤρεσε τοῖς υἱοῖς ᾿Ισραήλ. καὶ ἐλάλησαν πρὸς τοὺς υἱοὺς ᾿Ισραήλ, καὶ εὐλόγησαν τὸν Θεὸν υἱῶν ᾿Ισραὴλ καὶ εἶπαν μηκέτι ἀναβῆναι πρὸς αὐτοὺς εἰς πόλεμον ἐξολοθρεῦσαι τὴν γῆν τῶν υἱῶν Ρουβὴν καὶ τῶν υἱῶν Γὰδ καὶ τοῦ ἡμίσους φυλῆς Μανασσῆ. καὶ κατῴκησαν ἐπ' αὐτῆς. 34 καὶ ἐπωνόμασεν ᾿Ιησοῦς τὸν βωμὸν τῶν Ρουβὴν καὶ τῶν Γὰδ καὶ τοῦ ἡμίσους φυλῆς Μανασσῆ καὶ εἶπεν ὅτι μαρτύριόν ἐστιν ἀνὰ μέσον αὐτῶν, ὅτι Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς αὐτῶν ἐστι.
ΚΑΙ ἐγένετο μεθ' ἡμέρας πλείους μετὰ τὸ καταπαῦσαι Κύριον τὸν ᾿Ισραὴλ ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν ἐχθρῶν αὐτοῦ κυκλόθεν, καὶ ᾿Ιησοῦς πρεσβύτερος προβεβηκὼς ταῖς ἡμέραις, 2 καὶ συνεκάλεσεν ᾿Ιησοῦς πάντας τοὺς υἱοὺς ᾿Ισραὴλ καὶ τὴν γερουσίαν αὐτῶν καὶ τοὺς ἄρχοντας αὐτῶν καὶ τοὺς δικαστὰς αὐτῶν καὶ τοὺς γραμματεῖς αὐτῶν καὶ εἶπε πρὸς αὐτούς· ἐγὼ γεγήρακα καὶ προβέβηκα ταῖς ἡμέραις. 3 ὑμεῖς δὲ ἑωράκατε ὅσα ἐποίησε Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν πᾶσι τοῖς ἔθνεσι τούτοις ἀπὸ προσώπου ἡμῶν, ὅτι Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς ὑμῶν ὁ ἐκπολεμήσας ὑμῖν. 4 ἴδετε ὅτι ἐπέρριφα ὑμῖν τὰ ἔθνη τὰ καταλελειμμένα ὑμῖν ταῦτα ἐν τοῖς κλήροις εἰς τὰς φυλὰς ὑμῶν· ἀπὸ τοῦ ᾿Ιορδάνου πάντα τά ἔθνη, ἃ ἐξωλόθρευσα, καὶ ἀπὸ τῆς θαλάσσης τῆς μεγάλης ὁριεῖ ἐπὶ δυσμὰς ἡλίου. 5 Κύριος δὲ ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν οὗτος ἐξολοθρεύσει αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ προσώπου ἡμῶν, ἕως ἂν ἀπόλωνται, καὶ ἀποστελεῖ αὐτοῖς τὰ θηρία τὰ ἄγρια, ἕως ἂν ἐξολοθρεύσῃ αὐτοὺς καὶ τοὺς βασιλεῖς αὐτῶν ἀπὸ προσώπου ὑμῶν, καὶ κατακληρονομήσετε τὴν γῆν αὐτῶν, καθὰ ἐλάλησε Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν ὑμῖν. 6 κατισχύσατε οὖν σφόδρα φυλάσσειν καὶ ποιεῖν πάντα τὰ γεγραμμένα ἐν τῷ βιβλίῳ τοῦ νόμου Μωυσῆ, ἵνα μὴ ἐκκλίνητε εἰς δεξιὰ ἢ εὐώνυμα, 7 ὅπως μὴ εἰσέλθητε εἰς τὰ ἔθνη τὰ καταλελειμμένα ταῦτα, καὶ τὰ ὀνόματα τῶν θεῶν αὐτῶν οὐκ ὀνομασθήσεται ἐν ὑμῖν, οὐδὲ μὴ λατρεύσητε οὐδὲ μὴ προσκυνήσητε αὐτοῖς, 8 ἀλλὰ Κυρίῳ τῷ Θεῷ ὑμῶν προσκολληθήσεσθε, καθάπερ ἐποιήσατε ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης. 9 καὶ ἐξολοθρεύσει αὐτοὺς Κύριος ἀπὸ προσώπου ὑμῶν ἔθνη μεγάλα καὶ ἰσχυρά, καὶ οὐδεὶς ἀντέστη κατενώπιον ἡμῶν ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης. 10 εἷς ὑμῶν ἐδίωξε χιλίους, ὅτι Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν οὗτος ἐξεπολέμει ὑμῖν, καθάπερ εἶπεν ἡμῖν. 11 καὶ φυλάξασθε σφόδρα τοῦ ἀγαπᾶν Κύριον τὸν Θεὸν ἡμῶν. 12 ἐὰν γὰρ ἀποστραφῆτε καὶ προσθῆσθε τοῖς ὑπολειφθεῖσιν ἔθνεσι τούτοις τοῖς μεθ' ὑμῶν καὶ ἐπιγαμίας ποιήσητε πρὸς αὐτοὺς καὶ συγκαταμιγῆτε αὐτοῖς καὶ αὐτοὶ ὑμῖν, 13 γινώσκετε ὅτι οὐ μὴ προσθῇ Κύριος τοῦ ἐξολοθρεῦσαι τὰ ἔθνη ταῦτα ἀπὸ προσώπου ὑμῶν, καὶ ἔσονται ὑμῖν εἰς παγίδας καὶ εἰς σκάνδαλα καὶ εἰς ἥλους ἐν ταῖς πτέρναις ὑμῶν καὶ εἰς βολίδας ἐν τοῖς ὀφθαλμοῖς ὑμῶν, ἕως ἂν ἀπόλησθε ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς τῆς ἀγαθῆς ταύτης, ἣν ἔδωκεν ὑμῖν Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς ὑμῶν. 14 ἐγὼ δὲ ἀποτρέχω τὴν ὁδόν, καθὰ καὶ πάντες οἱ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, καὶ γνώσεσθε τῇ καρδίᾳ ὑμῶν καὶ τῇ ψυχῇ ὑμῶν, διότι οὐκ ἔπεσεν εἷς λόγος ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν λόγων, ὧν εἶπε Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν πρὸς πάντα τὰ ἀνήκοντα ἡμῖν, οὐ διεφώνησεν ἐξ αὐτῶν. 15 καὶ ἔσται ὃν τρόπον ἥκει πρὸς ἡμᾶς πάντα τὰ ρήματα τὰ καλά, ἃ ἐλάλησε Κύριος ἐφ' ὑμᾶς, οὕτως ἐπάξει Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς ἐφ' ὑμᾶς πάντα τὰ ρήματα τὰ πονηρὰ ἕως ἂν ἐξολοθρεύσῃ ὑμᾶς ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς τῆς ἀγαθῆς ταύτης, ἧς ἔδωκε Κύριος ὑμῖν, 16 ἐν τῷ παραβῆναι ὑμᾶς τὴν διαθήκην Κυρίου τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν, ἣν ἐνετείλατο ἡμῖν, καὶ πορευθέντες λατρεύσητε θεοῖς ἑτέροις καὶ προσκυνήσητε αὐτοῖς.
ΚΑΙ συνήγαγεν ᾿Ιησοῦς πάσας φυλὰς ᾿Ισραὴλ εἰς Σηλὼ καὶ συνεκάλεσε τοὺς πρεσβυτέρους αὐτῶν καὶ τοὺς γραμματεῖς αὐτῶν καὶ τοὺς δικαστὰς αὐτῶν καὶ ἔστησεν αὐτοὺς ἀπέναντι τοῦ Θεοῦ. 2 καὶ εἶπεν ᾿Ιησοῦς πρὸς πάντα τὸν λαόν· τάδε λέγει Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς ᾿Ισραήλ· πέραν τοῦ ποταμοῦ παρῴκησαν οἱ πατέρες ὑμῶν τὸ ἀπ' ἀρχῆς, Θάρα ὁ πατὴρ ῾Αβραὰμ καὶ ὁ πατὴρ Ναχώρ, καὶ ἐλάτρευσαν θεοῖς ἑτέροις. 3 καὶ ἔλαβον τὸν πατέρα ὑμῶν τὸν ῾Αβραὰμ ἐκ τοῦ πέραν τοῦ ποταμοῦ καὶ ὡδήγησα αὐτὸν ἐν πάσῃ τῇ γῇ καὶ ἐπλήθυνα αὐτοῦ σπέρμα 4 καὶ ἔδωκα αὐτῷ τὸν ᾿Ισαάκ, καὶ τῷ ᾿Ισαὰκ τὸν ᾿Ιακὼβ καὶ τὸν ῾Ησαῦ· καὶ ἔδωκα τῷ ῾Ησαῦ τὸ ὄρος τὸ Σηεὶρ κληρονομῆσαι αὐτῷ, καὶ ᾿Ιακὼβ καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ κατέβησαν εἰς Αἴγυπτον καὶ ἐγένοντο ἐκεῖ εἰς ἔθνος μέγα καὶ πολὺ καὶ κραταιόν. καὶ ἐκάκωσαν αὐτοὺς οἱ Αἰγύπτιοι, 5 καὶ ἐπάταξε Κύριος τὴν Αἴγυπτον ἐν σημείοις, οἷς ἐποίησεν ἐν αὐτοῖς. 6 καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα ἐξήγαγε τοὺς πατέρας ἡμῶν ἐξ Αἰγύπτου, καὶ εἰσήλθατε εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν τὴν ἐρυθράν. καὶ κατεδίωξαν οἱ Αἰγύπτιοι ὀπίσω τῶν πατέρων ἡμῶν ἐν ἅρμασι καὶ ἐν ἵπποις εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν τὴν ἐρυθράν, 7 καὶ ἀνεβοήσαμεν πρὸς Κύριον, καὶ ἔδωκε νεφέλην καὶ γνόφον ἀναμέσον ἡμῶν καὶ ἀναμέσον τῶν Αἰγυπτίων καὶ ἐπήγαγεν ἐπ' αὐτοὺς τὴν θάλασσαν, καὶ ἐκάλυψεν αὐτούς, καὶ εἴδοσαν οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ ὑμῶν ὅσα ἐποίησε Κύριος ἐν γῇ Αἰγύπτῳ, καὶ ἦτε ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ ἡμέρας πλείους. 8 καὶ ἤγαγεν ἡμᾶς εἰς γῆν ᾿Αμορραίων τῶν κατοικούντων πέραν τοῦ ᾿Ιορδάνου, καὶ παρετάξαντο ὑμῖν καὶ παρέδωκεν αὐτοὺς Κύριος εἰς τὰς χεῖρας ὑμῶν, καὶ κατεκληρονομήσατε τὴν γῆν αὐτῶν καὶ ἐξωλοθρεύσατε αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ προσώπου ὑμῶν. 9 καὶ ἀνέστη Βαλὰκ ὁ τοῦ Σεπφὼρ βασιλεὺς Μωὰβ καὶ παρετάξατο τῷ ᾿Ισραὴλ καὶ ἀποστείλας ἐκάλεσε τὸν Βαλαὰμ ἀράσασθαι ἡμῖν· 10 καὶ οὐκ ἠθέλησε Κύριος ὁ Θεός σου ἀπολέσαι σε, καὶ εὐλογίαις εὐλόγησεν ὑμᾶς, καὶ ἐξείλατο ὑμᾶς ἐκ χειρῶν αὐτῶν, καὶ παρέδωκεν αὐτούς. 11 καὶ διέβητε τὸν ᾿Ιορδάνην καὶ παρεγενήθητε εἰς ῾Ιεριχώ· καὶ ἐπολέμησαν πρὸς ἡμᾶς οἱ κατοικοῦντες ῾Ιεριχώ, ὁ ᾿Αμορραῖος καὶ ὁ Χαναναῖος καὶ ὁ Φερεζαῖος καὶ ὁ Εὐαῖος καὶ ὁ ᾿Ιεβουσαῖος καὶ ὁ Χετταῖος καὶ ὁ Γεργεσαῖος, καὶ παρέδωκεν αὐτοὺς Κύριος εἰς τὰς χεῖρας ὑμῶν. 12 καὶ ἐξαπέστειλε προτέραν ὑμῶν τὴν σφηκιάν, καὶ ἐξαπέστειλεν αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ προσώπου ὑμῶν, δώδεκα βασιλεῖς τῶν ᾿Αμορραίων, οὐκ ἐν τῇ ρομφαίᾳ σου οὐδὲ ἐν τῷ τόξῳ σου. 13 καὶ ἔδωκεν ὑμῖν γῆν, ἐφ' ἣν οὐκ ἐκοπιάσατε ἐπ᾿ αὐτῆς, καὶ πόλεις, ἃς οὐκ ᾠκοδομήκατε, καὶ κατῳκίσθητε ἐν αὐταῖς· καὶ ἀμπελῶνας καὶ ἐλαιῶνας, οὓς οὐκ ἐφυτεύσατε ὑμεῖς, ἔδεσθε. 14 καὶ νῦν φοβήθητε Κύριον, καὶ λατρεύσατε αὐτῷ ἐν εὐθύτητι καὶ ἐν δικαιοσύνῃ καὶ περιέλεσθε τοὺς θεοὺς τοὺς ἀλλοτρίους, οἷς ἐλάτρευσαν οἱ πατέρες ἡμῶν ἐν τῷ πέραν τοῦ ποταμοῦ καὶ ἐν Αἰγύπτῳ, καὶ λατρεύσατε Κυρίῳ. 15 εἰ δὲ μὴ ἀρέσκει ὑμῖν λατρεύειν Κυρίῳ, ἐκλέξασθε ὑμῖν αὐτοῖς σήμερον, τίνι λατρεύσητε, εἴτε τοῖς θεοῖς τῶν πατέρων ὑμῶν, τοῖς ἐν τῷ πέραν τοῦ ποταμοῦ, εἴτε τοῖς θεοῖς τῶν ᾿Αμορραίων, ἐν οἷς ὑμεῖς κατοικεῖτε ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς αὐτῶν· ἐγὼ δὲ καὶ ἡ οἰκία μου λατρεύσομεν Κυρίῳ, ὅτι ἅγιός ἐστι. 16 Καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ λαὸς εἶπε· μὴ γένοιτο ἡμῖν καταλιπεῖν Κύριον, ὥστε λατρεύειν θεοῖς ἑτέροις. 17 Κύριος ὁ Θεός ἡμῶν, αὐτὸς Θεός ἐστιν· αὐτὸς ἀνήγαγεν ἡμᾶς καὶ τοὺς πατέρας ἡμῶν ἐξ Αἰγύπτου καὶ διεφύλαξεν ἡμᾶς ἐν πάσῃ τῇ ὁδῷ, ᾗ ἐπορεύθημεν ἐν αὐτῇ, καί ἐν πᾶσι τοῖς ἔθνεσιν, οὓς παρήλθομεν δι' αὐτῶν. 18 καὶ ἐξέβαλε Κύριος τὸν ᾿Αμορραῖον καὶ πάντα τὰ ἔθνη τὰ κατοικοῦντα τὴν γῆν ἀπὸ προσώπου ἡμῶν. ἀλλὰ καὶ ἡμεῖς λατρεύσομεν Κυρίῳ· οὗτος γὰρ Θεὸς ἡμῶν ἐστι. 19 καὶ εἶπεν ᾿Ιησοῦς πρὸς τὸν λαόν· οὐ μὴ δύνησθε λατρεύειν Κυρίῳ, ὅτι ὁ Θεὸς ἅγιός ἐστι, καὶ ζηλώσας οὗτος οὐκ ἀνήσει τὰ ἁμαρτήματα ὑμῶν καὶ τὰ ἀνομήματα ὑμῶν· 20 ἡνίκα ἂν ἐγκαταλίπητε Κύριον καὶ λατρεύσητε θεοῖς ἑτέροις, καὶ ἐπελθὼν κακώσει ὑμᾶς καὶ ἐξαναλώσει ὑμᾶς ἀνθ' ὧν εὖ ἐποίησεν ὑμᾶς. 21 καὶ εἶπεν ὁ λαὸς πρὸς ᾿Ιησοῦν· οὐχί, ἀλλὰ Κυρίῳ λατρεύσομεν. 22 καὶ εἶπεν ᾿Ιησοῦς πρὸς τὸν λαόν· μάρτυρες ὑμεῖς καθ' ὑμῶν, ὅτι ὑμεῖς ἐξελέξασθε Κυρίῳ λατρεύειν αὐτῷ. 23 καὶ νῦν περιέλεσθε τοὺς θεοὺς τοὺς ἀλλοτρίους τοὺς ἐν ὑμῖν καὶ εὐθύνατε τὴν καρδίαν ὑμῶν πρὸς Κύριον Θεὸν ᾿Ισραήλ. 24 καὶ εἶπεν ὁ λαὸς πρὸς ᾿Ιησοῦν· Κυρίῳ λατρεύσομεν καὶ τῆς φωνῆς αὐτοῦ ἀκουσόμεθα. 25 καὶ διέθετο ᾿Ιησοῦς διαθήκην πρὸς τὸν λαὸν ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτῷ νόμον καὶ κρίσιν ἐν Σηλὼ ἐνώπιον τῆς σκηνῆς τοῦ Θεοῦ ᾿Ισραήλ. 26 καὶ ἔγραψε τὰ ρήματα ταῦτα εἰς βιβλίον νόμων τοῦ Θεοῦ· καὶ ἔλαβε λίθον μέγαν καὶ ἔστησεν αὐτὸν ᾿Ιησοῦς ὑπὸ τὴν τερέμινθον ἀπέναντι Κυρίου. 27 καὶ εἶπεν ᾿Ιησοῦς πρὸς τὸν λαόν· ἰδοὺ ὁ λίθος οὗτος ἔσται ἐν ὑμῖν εἰς μαρτύριον, ὅτι αὐτὸς ἀκήκοε πάντα τὰ λεχθέντα αὐτῷ ὑπὸ Κυρίου, ὅ,τι ἐλάλησε πρὸς ὑμᾶς σήμερον· καὶ οὗτος ἔσται ἐν ὑμῖν εἰς μαρτύριον ἐπ' ἐσχάτων τῶν ἡμερῶν, ἡνίκα ἂν ψεύσησθε Κυρίῳ τῷ Θεῷ μου. 28 καὶ ἀπέστειλεν ᾿Ιησοῦς τὸν λαόν, καὶ ἐπορεύθησαν ἕκαστος εἰς τὸν τόπον αὐτοῦ. 29 καὶ ἐλάτρευσεν ᾿Ισραὴλ τῷ Κυρίῳ πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας ᾿Ιησοῦ καὶ πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας τῶν πρεσβυτέρων, ὅσοι ἐφείλκυσαν τὸν χρόνον μετὰ ᾿Ιησοῦ καὶ ὅσοι εἴδοσαν πάντα τὰ ἔργα Κυρίου, ὅσα ἐποίησε τῷ ᾿Ισραήλ. 30 Καὶ ἐγένετο μετ' ἐκεῖνα καὶ ἀπέθανεν ᾿Ιησοῦς υἱὸς Ναυὴ δοῦλος Κυρίου ἑκατὸν δέκα ἐτῶν.
31 καὶ ἔθαψαν αὐτὸν πρὸς τοῖς ὁρίοις τοῦ κλήρου αὐτοῦ ἐν Θαμνασασὰχ ἐν τῷ ὄρει τῷ ᾿Εφραὶμ ἀπὸ βορρᾶ τοῦ ὄρους Γαάς· ἐκεῖ ἔθηκαν μετ' αὐτοῦ εἰς τό μνῆμα, εἰς ὃ ἔθαψαν αὐτὸν ἐκεῖ, τὰς μαχαίρας τὰς πετρίνας, ἐν αἷς περιέτεμε τοὺς υἱοὺς ᾿Ισραὴλ ἐν Γαλγάλοις, ὅτε ἐξήγαγεν αὐτοὺς ἐξ Αἰγύπτου, καθὰ συνέταξεν αὐτοῖς Κύριος, καὶ ἐκεῖ εἰσιν ἕως τῆς σήμερον ἡμέρας. 32 καὶ τὰ ὀστᾶ ᾿Ιωσὴφ ἀνήγαγον οἱ υἱοὶ ᾿Ισραὴλ ἐξ Αἰγύπτου καὶ κατώρυξαν ἐν Σικίμοις, ἐν τῇ μερίδι τοῦ ἀγροῦ, οὗ ἐκτήσατο ᾿Ιακὼβ παρὰ τῶν ᾿Αμορραίων τῶν κατοικούντων ἐν Σικίμοις ἀμνάδων ἑκατὸν καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτὴν ᾿Ιωσὴφ ἐν μερίδι.
33 καὶ ἐγένετο μετὰ ταῦτα καὶ ᾿Ελεάζαρ
υἱὸς ᾿Ααρὼν ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς ἐτελεύτησε καὶ ἐτάφη ἐν Γαβαὰρ Φινεὲς τοῦ υἱοῦ
αὐτοῦ, ἣν ἔδωκεν αὐτῷ ἐν τῷ ὄρει ᾿Εφραίμ. ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ λαβόντες οἱ
υἱοὶ ᾿Ισραὴλ τὴν κιβωτὸν τοῦ Θεοῦ περιεφέροσαν ἐν ἑαυτοῖς, καὶ Φινεὲς
ἱεράτευσεν ἀντὶ ᾿Ελεάζαρ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ, ἕως ἀπέθανε καὶ κατωρύγη ἐν
Γαβαὰρ τῇ ἑαυτοῦ. οἱ δὲ υἱοὶ ᾿Ισραὴλ ἀπήλθοσαν ἕκαστος εἰς τὸν τόπον
αὐτῶν καὶ εἰς τὴν ἑαυτῶν πόλιν. καὶ ἐσέβοντο οἱ υἱοὶ ᾿Ισραὴλ τὴν ᾿Αστάρτην
καὶ ᾿Ασταρὼθ καὶ τοὺς θεοὺς τῶν ἐθνῶν τῶν κύκλῳ αὐτῶν· καὶ παρέδωκεν
αὐτοὺς Κύριος εἰς χεῖρας ᾿Εγλὼμ τῷ βασιλεῖ Μωάβ, καὶ ἐκυρίευσεν αὐτῶν
ἔτη δεκαοκτώ.

JESUS OF NUN
21 And the heads of the families of the sons of Levi drew near to Eleazar the priest, and to Joshua the son of Naue, and to the heads of families of the tribes of Israel. 2 And they spoke to them in Selo in the land of Chanaan, saying, The Lord gave commandment by Moses to give us cities to dwell in, and the country round about for our cattle. 3 So the children of Israel gave to the Levites in their inheritance by the command of the Lord the cities and the country round. 4 And the lot came out for the children of Caath; and the sons of Aaron, the priests the Levites, had by lot thirteen cities out of the tribe of Juda, and out of the tribe of Symeon, and out of the tribe of Benjamin.
5 And to the sons of Caath that were left were given by lot ten cities, out of the tribe of Ephraim, and out of the tribe of Dan, and out of the half tribe of Manasse. 6 And the sons of Gedson had thirteen cities, out of the tribe of Issachar, and out of the tribe of Aser, and out of the tribe of Nephthali, and out of the half tribe of Manasse in Basan. 7 And the sons of Merari according to their families had by lot twelve cities, out of the tribe of Ruben, and out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zabulon. 8 And the children of Israel gave to the Levites the cities and their suburbs, as the Lord commanded Moses, by lot. 9 And the tribe of the children of Juda, and the tribe of the children of Symeon, and part of the tribe of the children of Benjamin gave these cities, and they were assigned 10 to the sons of Aaron of the family of Caath of the sons of Levi, for the lot fell to these. 11 And they gave to them Cariatharboc the metropolis of the sons of Enac; this is Chebron in the mountain country of Juda, and the suburbs round it. 12 But the lands of the city, and its villages Joshua gave to the sons of Chaleb the son of Jephonne for a possession. 13 And to the sons of Aaron he gave the city of refuge for the slayer, Chebron, and the suburbs belonging to it; and Lemna and the suburbs belonging to it;
14 and Ælom and its suburbs; and Tema and its suburbs; 15 and Gella and its suburbs; and Dabir and its suburbs; 16 and Asa and its suburbs; and Tany and its suburbs; and Baethsamys and its suburbs: nine cities from these two tribes.
17 And from the tribe of Benjamin, Gabaon and its suburbs; and Gatheth and its suburbs;
18 and Anathoth and its suburbs; and Gamala and its suburbs; four cities.
19 All the cities of the sons of Aaron the priests, thirteen. 20 And to the families, even the sons of Caath the Levites, that were left of the sons of Caath, there was given their priests’ city,
21 out of the tribe of Ephraim; and they gave them the slayer’s city of refuge, Sychem, and its suburbs, and Gazara and its appendages, and its suburbs;
22 and Baethoron and its suburbs: four cities:
23 and the tribe of Dan, Helcothaim and its suburbs; and Gethedan and its suburbs:
24 and Ælon and its suburbs; and Getheremmon and its suburbs: four cities.
25 And out of the half tribe of Manasse, Tanach and its suburbs; and Jebatha and its suburbs; two cities.
26 In all were given ten cities, and the suburbs of each belonging to them, to the families of the sons of Caath that remained. 27 And Joshua gave to the sons of Gedson the Levites out of the other half tribe of Manasse cities set apart for the slayers, Gaulon in the country of Basan, and its suburbs; and Bosora and its suburbs; two cities.
28 And out of the tribe of Issachar, Kison and its suburbs; and Debba and its suburbs;
29 and Remmath and its suburbs; and the well of Letters, and its suburbs; four cities.
30 And out of the tribe of Aser, Basella and its suburbs; and Dabbon and its suburbs;
31 and Chelcat and its suburbs; and Raab and its suburbs; four cities. 32 And of the tribe of Nephthali, the city set apart for the slayer, Cades in Galilee, and its suburbs; and Nemmath, and its suburbs; and Themmon and its suburbs; three cities.
33 All the cities of Gedson according to their families were thirteen cities. 34 And to the family of the sons of Merari the Levites that remained, he gave out of the tribe of Zabulon, Maan and its suburbs; and Cades and its suburbs,
35 and Sella and its suburbs: three cities.
36 And beyond Jordan over against Jericho, out of the tribe of Ruben, the city of refuge for the slayer, Bosor in the wilderness; Miso and its suburbs; and Jazer and its suburbs;
37 and Decmon and its suburbs; and Mapha and its suburbs; four cities.
38 And out of the tribe of Gad the city of refuge for the slayer, both Ramoth in Galaad, and its suburbs; Camin and its suburbs;
39 and Esbon and its suburbs; and Jazer and its suburbs: the cities were four in all.
40 All these cities were given to the sons of Merari according to the families of them that were left out of the tribe of Levi; and their limits were the twelve cities. 41 All the cities of the Levites in the midst of the possession of the children of Israel, were forty-eight cities, and their suburbs round about these cities:
42 a city and the suburbs round about the city to all these cities: 42a and Joshua ceased dividing the land by their borders: 42b and the children of Israel gave a portion to Joshua because of the commandment of the Lord: they gave him the city which he asked: they gave him Thamnasachar in mount Ephraim; 42c and Joshua built the city, and dwelt in it:
42d and Joshua took the knives of stone, wherewith he circumcised the children of Israel that were born in the desert by the way, and put them in Thamnasachar.
43 So the Lord gave to Israel all the land which he sware to give to their fathers: and they inherited it, and dwelt in it.
44 And the Lord gave them rest round about, as he sware to their fathers: not one of all their enemies maintained his ground against them; the Lord delivered all their enemies into their hands.
45 There failed not one of the good things which the Lord spoke to the children of Israel; all came to pass.
22 Then Joshua called together the sons of Ruben, and the sons of Gad, and the half tribe of Manasse, 2 and said to them, Ye have heard all that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, and ye have hearkened to my voice in all that he commanded you.
3 Ye have not deserted your brethren these many days: until this day ye have kept the commandment of the Lord your God.
4 And now the Lord our God has given our brethren rest, as he told them: now then return and depart to your homes, and to the land of your possession, which Moses gave you on the other side Jordan.
5 But take great heed to do the commands and the law, which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you to do; to love the Lord our God, to walk in all his ways, to keep his commands, and to cleave to him, and serve him with all your mind, and with all your soul.
6 And Joshua blessed them, and dismissed them; and they went to their homes. 7 And to one half the tribe of Manasse Moses gave a portion in the land of Basan, and to the other half Joshua gave a portion with his brethren on the other side of Jordan westward: and when Joshua sent them away to their homes, then he blessed them.
8 And they departed with much wealth to their houses, and they divided the spoil of their enemies with their brethren; very much cattle, and silver, and gold, and iron, and much raiment.
9 So the sons of Ruben, and the sons of Gad, and the half tribe of Manasse, departed from the children of Israel in Selo in the land of Chanaan, to go away into Galaad, into the land of their possession, which they inherited by the command of the Lord, by the hand of Moses. 10 And they came to Galaad of Jordan, which is in the land of Chanaan: and the children of Ruben, and the children of Gad, and the half tribe of Manasse built there an alter by Jordan, a great altar to look at. 11 And the children of Israel heard say, Behold, the sons of Ruben, and the sons of Gad, and the half tribe of Manasse have built an alter at the borders of the land of Chanaan at Galaad of Jordan, on the opposite side to the children of Israel. 12 And all the children of Israel gathered together to Selo, so as to go up and fight against them. 13 And the children of Israel sent to the sons of Ruben, and the sons of Gad, and to the sons of the half tribe of Manasse into the land of Galaad, both Phinees the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest,
14 and ten of the chiefs with him; there was one chief of every household out of all the tribes of Israel; (the heads of families are the captains of thousands in Israel.) 15 And they came to the sons of Ruben, and to the sons of Gad, and to the half tribe of Manasse into the land of Galaad; and they spoke to them, saying,
16 Thus says the whole congregation of the Lord, What is this transgression that ye have transgressed before the God of Israel, to turn away today from the Lord, in that ye have built for yourselves an alter, so that ye should be apostates from the Lord? 17 Is the sin of Phogor too little for you, whereas we have not been cleansed from it until this day, though there was a plague among the congregation of the Lord? 18 And ye have this day revolted from the Lord; and it shall come to pass if ye revolt this day from the Lord, that to-morrow there shall be wrath upon all Israel. 19 And now if the land of your possession be too little, cross over to the land of the possession of the Lord, where the tabernacle of the Lord dwells, and receive ye an inheritance among us; and do not become apostates from God, neither do ye apostatize from the Lord, because of your having built an altar apart from the altar of the Lord our God. 20 Lo! did not Achar the son of Zara commit a trespass taking of the accursed thing, and there was wrath on the whole congregation of Israel? and he himself died alone in his own sin. 21 And the sons of Ruben, and the sons of Gad, and the half tribe of Manasse answered, and spoke to the captains of the thousands of Israel, saying, 22 God even God is the Lord, and God even God himself knows, and Israel he shall know; if we have transgressed before the Lord by apostasy, let him not deliver us this day. 23 And if we have built to ourselves an altar, so as to apostatize from the Lord our God, so as to offer upon it a sacrifice of whole-burnt-offerings, so as to offer upon it a sacrifice of peace-offering, —the Lord shall require it. 24 But we have done this for the sake of precaution concerning this thing, saying, Lest hereafter your sons should say to our sons, What have ye to do with the Lord God of Israel? 25 Whereas the Lord has set boundaries between us and you, even Jordan, and ye have no portion in the Lord: so your sons shall alienate our sons, that they should not worship the Lord. 26 And we gave orders to do thus, to build this altar, not for burnt-offerings, nor for meat-offerings;
27 but that this may be a witness between you and us, and between our posterity after us, that we may do service to the Lord before him, with our burnt-offerings and our meat-offerings and our peace-offerings: so your sons shall not say to our sons, hereafter, Ye have no portion in the Lord.
28 And we said, If ever it should come to pass that they should speak so to us, or to our posterity hereafter; then shall they say, Behold the likeness of the altar of the Lord, which our fathers made, not for the sake of burnt-offerings, nor for the sake of meat-offerings, but it is a witness between you and us, and between our sons. 29 Far be it from us therefore that we should turn away from the Lord this day so as to apostatize from the Lord, so as that we should build an altar for burnt-offerings, and for peace-offerings, besides the altar of the Lord which is before his tabernacle.
30 And Phinees the priest and all the chiefs of the congregation of Israel who were with him heard the words which the children of Ruben, and the children of Gad, and the half tribe of Manasse spoke; and it pleased them. 31 And Phinees the priest said to the sons of Ruben, and to the sons of Gad, and to the half of the tribe of Manasse, To-day we know that the Lord is with us, because ye have not trespassed grievously against the Lord, and because ye have delivered the children of Israel out of the hand of the Lord. 32 So Phinees the priest and the princes departed from the children of Ruben, and from the children of Gad, and from the half tribe of Manasse out of Galaad into the land of Chanaan to the children of Israel; and reported the words to them. 33 And it pleased the children of Israel; and they spoke to the children of Israel, and blessed the God of the children of Israel, and told them to go up no more to war against the others to destroy the land of the children of Ruben, and the children of Gad, and the half tribe of Manasse: so they dwelt upon it. 34 And Joshua gave a name to the altar of the children of Ruben, and the children of Gad, and the half tribe of Manasse; and said, It is a testimony in the midst of them, that the Lord is their God.
23 And it came to pass after many days after the Lord had given Israel rest from all his enemies round about, that Joshua was old and advanced in years.
2 And Joshua called together all the children of Israel, and their elders, and their chiefs, and their judges, and their officers; and said to them, I am old and advanced in years.
3 And ye have seen all that the Lord our God has done to all these nations before us; for it is the Lord your God who has fought for you. 4 See, that I have given to you these nations that are left to you by lots to your tribes, all the nations beginning at Jordan; and some I have destroyed; and the boundaries shall be at the great sea westward.
5 And the Lord our God, he shall destroy them before us, until they utterly perish; and he shall send against them the wild beasts, until he shall have utterly destroyed them and their kings from before you; and ye shall inherit their land, as the Lord our God said to you. 6 Do ye therefore strive diligently to observe and do all things written in the book of the law of Moses, that ye turn not to the right hand or to the left; 7 that ye go not in among these nations that are left; and the names of their gods shall not be named among you, neither shall ye serve them, neither shall ye bow down to them. 8 But ye shall cleave to the Lord our God, as ye have done until this day. 9 And the Lord shall destroy them before you, even great and strong nations; and no one has stood before us until this day. 10 One of you has chased a thousand, for the Lord our God, he fought for you, as he said to us. 11 And take ye great heed to love the Lord our God.
12 For if ye shall turn aside and attach yourselves to these nations that are left with you, and make marriages with them, and become mingled with them and they with you, 13 know that the Lord will no more destroy these nations from before you; and they will be to you snares and stumbling-blocks, and nails in your heels, and darts in your eyes, until ye be destroyed from off this good land, which the Lord your God has given you.
14 But I hasten to go the way of death, as all that are upon the earth also do: and ye know in your heart and in your soul, that not one word has fallen to the ground of all the words which the Lord our God has spoken respecting all that concerns us; there has not one of them failed. 15 And it shall come to pass, that as all the good things are come upon us which the Lord God will bring upon you all the evil things, until he shall have destroyed you from off this good land, which the Lord has given you, 16 when ye transgress the covenant of the Lord our God, which he has charged us, and go and serve other gods, and bow down to them.
24 And Joshua gathered all the tribe of Israel to Selo, and convoked their elders, and their officers, and their judges, and set them before God.
2 And Joshua said to all the people, Thus says the Lord God of Israel, Your fathers at first sojourned beyond the river, even Thara, the father of Abraam and the father of Nachor; and they served other gods.
3 And I took your father Abraam from the other side of the river, and I guided him through all the land, and I multiplied his seed; 4 and I gave to him Isaac, and to Isaac Jacob and Esau: and I gave to Esau mount Seir for him to inherit: and Jacob and his sons went down to Egypt, and became there a great and populous and mighty nation: and the Egyptians afflicted them.
5 And I smote Egypt with the wonders that I wrought among them. 6 And afterwards God brought out our fathers from Egypt, and ye entered into the Red Sea; and the Egyptians pursued after our fathers with chariots and horses into the Red Sea.
7 And we cried aloud to the Lord; and he put a cloud and darkness between us and the Egyptians, and he brought the sea upon them, and covered them; and your eyes have seen all that the Lord did in the land of Egypt; and ye were in the wilderness many days.
8 And he brought us into the land of the Amorites that dwelt beyond Jordan, and the Lord delivered them into our hands; and ye inherited their land, and utterly destroyed them from before you.
9 And Balac, king of Moab, son of Sepphor, rose up, and made war against Israel, and sent and called Balaam to curse us. 10 But the Lord thy God would not destroy thee; and he greatly blessed us, and rescued us out of their hands, and delivered them to us. 11 And ye crossed over Jordan, and came to Jericho; and the inhabitants of Jericho fought against us, the Amorite, and the Chananite, and the Pherezite, and the Evite, and the Jebusite, and the Chettite, and the Gergesite, and the Lord delivered them into our hands. 12 And he sent forth the hornet before you; and he drove them out from before you, even twelve kings of the Amorites, not with thy sword, nor with thy bow.
13 And he gave you a land on which ye did not labour, and cities which ye did not build, and ye were settled in them; and ye eat of vineyards and oliveyards which ye did not plant. 14 And now fear the Lord, and serve him in righteousness and justice; and remove the strange gods, which our fathers served beyond the river, and in Egypt; and serve the Lord.
15 But if it seem not good to you to serve the Lord, choose to yourselves this day whom ye will serve, whether the gods of your fathers that were on the other side of the river, or the gods of the Amorites, among whom ye dwell upon their land: but I and my house will serve the Lord, for he is holy.
16 And the people answered and said, Far be it from us to forsake the Lord, so as to serve other gods. 17 The Lord our God, he is God; he brought up us and our fathers from Egypt, and kept us in all the way wherein we walked, and among all the nations through whom we passed.
18 And the Lord cast out the Amorite, and all the nations that inhabited the land from before us: yea, we will serve the Lord, for he is our God.
19 And Joshua said to the people, Indeed ye will not be able to serve the Lord, for God is holy; and he being jealous will not forgive your sins and your transgressions. 20 Whensoever ye shall forsake the Lord and serve other gods, then he shall come upon you and afflict you, and consume you, because he has done you good. 21 And the people said to Joshua, Nay, but we will serve the Lord. 22 And Joshua said to the people, Ye are witnesses against yourselves, that ye have chosen the Lord to serve him. 23 And now take away the strange gods that are among you, and set your heart right toward the Lord God of Israel. 24 And the people said to Joshua, We will serve the Lord, and we will hearken to his voice. 25 So Joshua made a covenant with the people on that day, and gave them a law and an ordinance in Selo before the tabernacle of the God of Israel. 26 And he wrote these words in the book of the laws of God: and Joshua took a great stone, and set it up under the oak before the Lord.
27 And Joshua said to the people, Behold, this stone shall be among you for a witness, for it has heard all the words that have been spoken to it by the Lord; for he has spoken to you this day; and this stone shall be among you for a witness in the last days, whenever ye shall deal falsely with the Lord my God. 28 And Joshua dismissed the people, and they went every man to his place. 29 And Israel served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that lived as long as Joshua, and all that knew all the works of the Lord which he wrought for Israel.
30 And it came to pass after these things that Joshua the son of Naue the servant of the Lord died, at the age of a hundred and ten years. 31 And they buried him by the borders of his inheritance in Thamnasarach in the mount of Ephraim, northward of the mount of Galaad: there they put with him into the tomb in which they buried him, the knives of stone with which he circumcised the children of Israel in Galgala, when he brought them out of Egypt, as the Lord appointed them; and there they are to this day. 32 And the children of Israel brought up the bones of Joseph out of Egypt, and buried them in Sicima, in the portion of the land which Jacob bought of the Amorites who dwelt in Sicima for a hundred ewe-lambs; and he gave it to Joseph for a portion.
33 And it came to pass afterwards that Eleazar the high-priest the son of Aaron died, and was buried in Gabaar of Phinees his son, which he gave him in mount Ephraim. In that day the children of Israel took the ark of God, and carried it about among them; and Phinees exercised the priest’s office in the room of Eleazar his father till he died, and he was buried in his own place Gabaar: but the children of Israel departed every one to their place, and to their own city: and the children of Israel worshipped Astarte, and Astaroth, and the gods of the nations round about them; and the Lord delivered them into the hands of Eglom king of Moab and he ruled over them eighteen years.
