Question 83.

Good morning Father, if a greek orthodox dies and the family are very poor and they cannot afford to bury them, would the church help with the costs not only for the service but for the burial as well

Answer to Question 83.

I can't answer for England, but in Limassol where the Church also has a Funeral Director's office and where the church has control of the Cemetery, there would be no problem. In general the costs for a funeral are expensive because you have to pay the Funeral Directors which are privately run and it is their business to make money, and also buy or lease the land for the burial. When these factors are in church control then a funeral can be free for the "Truly" poor.
