Question 596

Good afternoon pater I’m not a person that goes into religion as I think it’s personal. But why is that people start believing on their sick bed.. but not before

Answer to Question 596

Usually the first stage where someone will seek God’s intervention is when either they themselves or someone close to them is suffering from a serious illness. It is then that they remember God and seek for a miracle. When all other routes are not an option, human despondency leads man to seek help from the very person they have denied all their lives in the hope that there is a God and he is listening. If there was no illness then they would not remember that there is a God. Also as death approaches people remember God because they fear of what will behold them, what if there actually is an eternal afterlife, where will I spend it? What if there is a hell, will I be cast into eternal hellfire? There is fear of the unknown and of not being in a place of peace.
