Question 557

What is the proper name for the Orthodox Church? I see so many different varieties that it has me confused

Answer to Question 557

If we go by the description we say in the Creed then it is "The One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. But each local Orthodox Church has its own name for example the Cyprus Church is officially known as the Greek Orthodox Church of Cyprus

No, the Orthodox church in England is not Autocephalos or antonymous, meaning that it is not independent or self ruling. It is under the protection of the Patriarchate of Constantinople. It is simply the Greek Orthodox Church or we can give it the title of its archbishop, the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain.
