Hello Pater, I’m a bit confused about Byzantine time. Can you let me know which prayers should he recited during the day and when? Thank you
Answer to Question 515 The Byzantine day begins from 6pm until 6pm the next day, in other words the day begins with the evening and ends with just before the evening of the next day. The church services are based on the Byzantine day and the first service of the day is the evening service of Vespers (6pm). Next follows in order Compline (after the evening meal), The Midnight service (12 midnight), Matins (morning) The First hour (6am), the Third Hour (9am), The Divine Liturgy, The sixth hour (12 midday) and lastly the Ninth hour (3pm). This is the order in most monasteries, but laypeople are not expected to follow the same pattern because life does not allow us to stop and pray at these specific times
