Question 482

If someone passes away in Cyprus and buried, then years later the husband dies and he get buried in the same place, where does his wife bones go?

Answer to Question 482

In villages the majority of graves are bought as double plots and when someone dies he/she is buried on the one side and when the other partner dies they are buried on the other side. In towns the majority of graves are single plots. The first burial is dug out very deep and for the second burial slightly higher so the remains of the first burial remain beneath. If the first burial was shallow then the grave diggers will find the bones when the grave is dug up again. These are placed in a pillowcase or something similar and after the burial service the bones from the previous burial are placed in the corner of the grave and reburied with the new coffin (person). Your mum was probably buried deeper and so the grave diggers didn't find them.
