Hi Fr. Maybe you've had to answer this before but what is the position of the church on tithing
Answer to Question 461 Tithing was practiced by the Jews and we read in the Acts of the Apostles that the first Christians gave all they had to the church which was then divided to those in need. In our days we cannot force people to give the church a tenth of all their earning although that would be wonderful because then the church would be able to put into practice many philanthropic works. Instead we are forced to make small charges for memorials and feasts, for baptisms, weddings and funerals (which many people begrudge giving) so that the church can cover the essentials like paying wages for priests, chanters, cleaners, electricity bills and many other hidden expenses which many small communities can't afford.
