Question 46.

When you christen a child! They say to buy the clothes in sets of ones or threes or fives! Why in odd numbers?? Why can't we buy the clothes in even numbers.

Answer to Question 46.

These are just folk customs that have been handed down through the centuries. There is nothing in church writings saying that you must buy anything. But for symbolic reasons 1 symbolizes the one God, 3 symbolizes the Holy Trinity and as for five well I have never heard of buying 5 of anything. What you buy for the child is between you and the parents, all the church asks for is a Cross and a change of clothing.
