Good morning, Father. What is your/the Church’s view on the usefulness of the Book of Enoch?
Answer to Question 441 The Book of Enoch is an apocryphal book and I don't think the church has any view as to its usefulness
Same member Thank you for getting back to me. Does this mean that it is not recognised by our church at all? Should an Orthodox Christian read it or are we advised to overlook it?
Reply When we say that a book is Apocryphal it means that the Church has rejected it as being God-inspired and is not to be read
Another member Are their any books that were rejected as inspired that are still ok for reference??? Or aren’t heretical even though they’re not inspired... I guess desert Fathers would be like that for example...
Reply There are many books that were not considered heretical but were not included in the Canon of the Bible. The Didache or the teaching of the 12 Apostles is one such book and the Epistle of St. Barnabas
Same member I have a copy of the Didache... But i thought Epistle of St Barnabas was heteretical...
Reply There is an Apocryphal book called the Acts of Barnabas, but it is completely different in content to the Epistle of St. Barnabas
