Can u please tell me what services are held over the Christmas period at church please? We always go at Easter time and I wanted to know what happens during Christmas-thanks in advance
Answer to Question 220
Services depend on where you live, but in general we begin with the Christmas fast on 15th November and serve the daily cycle of services (Vespers, Matins and Divine Liturgy) everyday until Christmas. On the Friday morning before Christmas we have the service of the Royal Hours which are readings from the Psalms, the Old Testament prophecies concerning the birth of the Messiah, New Testament readings and hymns. But on this day no liturgy is served. On the eve of the feast Great Vespers is sung and in the morning Mattins and the Divine Liturgy.
