Was the book of Job an actual story? I remember that someone said it was folklore.
Answer to Question 215
There are those that place the Book of Job as a fantasy story, but there are enough elements in the story to suggest that Job was a historical person. The author mentions the names of his friends and their nationalities and even Job is mentioned as a man from Ausitis which was between Arabia and Idumaea. Job is not of the Jewish faith or race so its surprising that the author would pick a non Jew whose race was an enemy of the Jews to be his hero. If it was fictional he would have made Job a Jew and thereby praise his own race. It presupposes that the author was writing history and not a figment of his imagination.
