Question 125

I heard During a christening the priest saying we believe in the Catholic church. I cant remember the exact wording, I have also heard someone say we are the Catholic church but not roman catholic, can you clarify for me please father?

Answer to Question 125

The Orthodox Church has always been the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. The titles Orthodox Church and Roman Catholic Church came into existence after the Great Schism in 1054. Catholic simply means universal and its use is not a prerogative just of the Roman Catholic Church
