At Mattins The Eighth Morning Gospel The Reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. John St John 20:11-18
At
that time,
Mary
stood without at the sepulchre weeping:
and as she wept, she
stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre, And seeth two angels in white
sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of
Jesus had lain. And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith
unto them, Because they have taken away my LORD, and I know not where they
have laid him. And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and
saw Jesus
standing, and knew not that it was Jesus. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why
weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener,
saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast
laid him, and I will take him away. Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned
herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master. Jesus saith
unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to
my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father;
and to my God, and your God. Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples
that she had seen the LORD, and that he had spoken these things unto her.
At the Divine Liturgy The Apostle Reading (29th Sunday) Prokhimenon. Tone 5. [Psalm 11]. Verse: Thou, O Lord, shalt keep us and shalt preserve us. Verse: Save me, O Lord, for the godly man ceaseth.
The reading is from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Colossians. Brethren, when Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all. Alleluia [3]. Tone 5 [Psalm 88]. Verse: I will sing of Thy mercies, O Lord, for ever. Verse: For Thou hast said, Mercy shall be built up for ever.
The Gospel Reading (12th Sunday of Luke) The Reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke St Luke 17:12-19 At that time, as Jesus entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off: And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed. And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.
